[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Request assistance with professions of father and godfather, Terceira c. 1900

2017-07-29 Thread linda

Thanks so much JR!

No, I expressed myself poorly and ambiguously; I was indeed hoping to get
confirmation that the father's profession was "hortelão". Thank you so
much for your response.

And, baleeiro it is, then. Many thanks!

Hi Group,

I think I have got the father's profession, but would very much appreciate
a second opinion from a fresh set of eyes.

I am stumped on the godfather's profession; I think I can read the letters,
but I believe I may be missing a more likely answer than a misspelled
whaler. Any and all ideas welcome!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Searching for the Birth or Baptism Certificate ofmy Great-grandparents

2017-07-29 Thread Kathy Cardoza
Hi Dorene

I’m curious about where you would find Port of Entry record at RJ? My
husband’s great grandparents left Terceira for Rio de Janeiro. I have found
passports for themleaving Terceira and (hallelujah!) their marriage and birth
of Wayne’s grandfather in Rio. Would love to find out more.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The meaning of Era ut Supra

2017-07-29 Thread 'John Raposo' via Azores Genealogy
It is usually the very last sentence before the signature(s). It is Latin for
"on the date stated above: era=date; ut=as; supra=above.

Looking for the meaning of Era ut supra. I believe it might be Latin for "true
and correct" but not sure.  The words commonly appear on baptismal and marriage
entries. Anyone like to comment?--
