Make sense, now that you’ve explained it. (I think I need more conhecimento!)

CCA = Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores. Center of Knowledge of the Azores.
Conhecer is to know and mento makes it an noun? I know Conhecimento means
knowledge. So I picked up on your conhecido as being from that verb or root
word.

Yes I get the frustration. I have at lease two feminine ancestors that
started using different devotional names. I think this is likely the case
here that she became known Maria da Trinidade instead of Maria do Rosario.
More baptisms of their children might help sort it out.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with maternal grandfather’s name

2019-02-28 Thread bsei2816
He is simply Manuel Pacheco on his daughter's marriage with no mention of
that puzzling word. It also shows that he is natural of São Pedro parish
in Vila Franca.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-LG-ROSARIO-C-1870-1879/SMG-LG-ROSARIO-C-1870-1879_item1/P251.html

Manuel reference starts about 7 lines down on next page.

how the name gets spelled in all those records. It may be a misspelling or
perhaps the priest was hard-of-hearing or the scribe couldn't read the

I read Manual Pacheco Tarrabagana. I would say it is not a very flattering
alcunha.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with maternal grandfather’s name

Hi! Record No. 33, maternal grandfather's name, I can make out Manoel Pacheco,
but the last name looks like Tarrabazana, I have searched it on google but
nothing comes up. Anyone? If it is Tarrabazana, does anyone know anything about
this name?
