Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Ernesto do Canto Index

2019-06-09 Thread Fernando Pimentel
Thanks Cheri! So to be clear, the index listed is not for all marriages in that
church for the years. He only has “important” marriages listed as maybe that’s
the lines he was researching? This still maybe helpful, so how do I get a copy
of the manuscripts?

Thanks Fernando

Cheri,

Can you tell us a bit about this index. Was this a book he wrote, is it
available online, is it accurate, etc.

Thanks, Fernando

[AZORES-Genealogy] Priest José Jacinto Ferreira Pimentel

2019-06-09 Thread Ângela Loura
Anyone here has in their tree a priest from the 1800s called José Jacinto
Ferreira Pimentel?
I believe he was from São Miguel. He spent a few years in Santa Maria, and
i think that after that he was in Arrifes.

Any clue would be very helpfull.

Thanks!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation help Costa Pimental families

2019-06-09 Thread Cheri Mello
Janet,

There aren't too many men in the 1850s time period named Jerome. Unless
someone liked the name in the village and they all used it. Let's hope not.

You have a date of birth. Go to Tombo.pt for Flores here:
https://tombo.pt/i/flores

Start with the council of Lajes. Go through every village for a Jerome born
around Oct/Nov of 1855. If you don't find him, go back to the council page
and look in the council of Santa Cruz and go through each village there.

Good luck!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation help Costa Pimental families

2019-06-09 Thread Janet Carminati
Thanks to all that replied - very helpful as I learn more about how to do
effective research!

Bill - Thank you very much for the help with the translations - really
appreciate it!

Mary - I do have lots of records for Jerome Sebastian Pimental as this was
my great great grandfather. His details are:
Birth Nov 1 1855 (Flores, but not sure what village) / death June 19 1929
Marriage to Aug 9 1877 to Conceicao Marie Costa - married in Napa CA, lived
in Green Valley and Wild Horse Valley in Napa/Solano counties, eventually
moved to Oakland

Potential siblings to Jerome are:
Frank J Pimental (1836 - ?) Married Maria E Costa (1850 - 1905)
Sylvester Pimental (1841 - 1903) Married to two different Maries (last name
unknown) and later in life to Marie de Gloria Lorenzeo (birth/death
unknown) - usually his name is spelled Pimentel. Sylvester and Maria were
witnesses for marriage of Jerome and Conceicao
Manuel Sebastian Pimental (1850 - 1912)
Vincent Sebastian Pimental (1858 - May 6, 1918) - oral family history that
Vincent was Jerome's brother
Marianna Pimental (~1868 - 1950) married to Manual Levy and then to Antone
Costa (1855 - 1928)

Let me know if we have any overlap in the Pimental family.

thank you all for the helpful information,
Janet

[AZORES-Genealogy] Pedro Miguel, Faial Confession Rolls

2019-06-09 Thread 'Kathy Cardoza' via Azores Genealogy
Hi Everyone

I wanted to let you all know of a new addition to the Azores GenWeb site. If
you have ancestors from Pedro Miguel, Faial, then you will be interested in the
newly posted Confession Rolls from there. They don’t cover all years, but many
years between 1853 and 1908. If you’re not familiar with these gems of info,
they are almost like a census. Each family is grouped together by address,
showing head of household and all other family members living there. Their
relationship to the head of household is also given as well as their age and
often, their occupation. They are a wonderful resource to track a family and
its members through the years. These files were generously shared by our
member, Susan Vargas Murphy, and are available for your viewing and for

Hi Lisa,

You are welcome. No, this couple is not part of my tree. You had the year, so
it was a quick find but even quicker for me because I’ve indexed this parish

[AZORES-Genealogy] FAIAL RODRIGUES ALEMÃO and PEREIRA CHAVES

2019-06-09 Thread Rita Soares
I am looking for ancestors of Manuel Rodrigues Alemão, from Capelo, Faial,
around 1660. His descendents then lived in Castelo Branco, Faial, and their
surname evolved to Pereira Chaves. They came to the portuguese continent
around 1750, to settle in Alentejo, where my paternal family comes from to
this day. Any help will be appreciated. I have a FTDNA test for me and my
parents as well.

Thank you! Obrigada!
Rita Soares
