[AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogias S. Jorge - Translation Request
Hello folks, I have been researching one of my lines in Calheta on Sao Jorge, and unearthed some interesting information in one of the manuscript genealogies. There is a paragraph that appears to talk about the life of my ancestor, and his promotion to second lieutenant, and his appointment the position of otary, and whatnot. Cannot make out much of the content, as I do not speak Portuguese. Actually I would read it as the 12th day of February of the current year rather than the 2nd. Please disregard my initial note as to the date. I read it as Luisa Guelhermina de Sousa, not Jesuina Guelhermina de Sousa... YOU GOT THE NAMES CORRECT, BUT I READ THE DATE AS OCT 29 1823 N0T 1821 his parents are António da Costa and Umbelina Francis - she is deceased? her parents are José Monis and Maria da Estrella YES, AND AT LEAST ONE OF THE GRROMS PARENTS IS DECEASED. DEPENDING ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT I THINK IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE DEFUNCTAS. here is jacinta's baptism in 1804? YEP! I WOULD READ IT AS NOVEMBER 5th 1804 could this be António da Costa and Umbelina Francis' marriage - what is the year? YES, I THINK YOU HAVE IT. I READ THAT DATE AS THE 8th OF DECEMBER 1781. NOT 100% SURE ON THE 8th, BUT I READ THE ONE BEFORE IT AS THE 7th, AND THE ONE AFTER IT AS THE 10th. Hope this is of some help! Hello, I am looking at my ancestors death record at: It looks like he died 8 Nov 1745 (Bottom left entry the following link) http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SJR-CH-CALHETA-O-1727-1749/SJR-CH-CALHETA-O-1727-1749_item1/P90.html On the margin is says Graciosa. Was he born there? Further does the document give any indication as to which town on that Island in particular he was from? Lastly, how old is he?
