Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Yet another wall
Paul we have a cousin Richard Duarte who is the grandson of Manoel Jacinto Duarte and Maria Quiteira. Richard's father was Manuel Duarte who was 3 years old on the ship coming from the Azores to Hawaii. He has made several trips to the Azores and has visited family there. He may have some answers for you. I can contact him and see what he knows or if he has any records that he has not passed on to me. Katherine thank you so much for your info. MS does not make malasadas but I will call the others and check them out. Although maybe at MS they call them something different. I am going to take a ride next week that way so I will check all of them out personally to see what they have. Would like to pick up some sweet bread and portuguese cookies too! So I googled it and here it is. If you google The Elusive Ancestor the person who has posted it has a few other nice poems. Enjoy! E THE ELUSIVE ANCESTOR I went searching for an ancestor ... I cannot find him still, He moved around from place to place And did not leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned, He mended all his fences; He avoided any man Who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, This man who had no fame; And every 20 years or so, This rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe ... They should be upon some list Of passengers to U.S.A., But somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world Is searching for this man; So, I play geneasolitaire To find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, With tombstone he was blessed; But the weather took engraving, And some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks Decided to keep records; No Family Bible has emerged, In spite of all my efforts. To top it off this ancestor, Who caused me many groans, Just to give me one more pain, Betrothed a girl named JONES! ~ Merrell Kenworthy ~ (this the the name listed on the site - not sure if she is author or not) -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Restaurant name
I suppose because it was owned by Portuguese all those years people just thought they served Portuguese food. So when my family (Duarte's) found the restaurant and traveled to visit they were disappointed. They did speak of the soup being very good. --- On Sun, 2/28/10, eric edgar noblankt...@gmail.com wrote: From: eric edgar noblankt...@gmail.com Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Restaurant name To: azores@googlegroups.com Date: Sunday, February 28, 2010, 6:08 PM It's not a Portuguese Restaurant, it's run by the same Portuguees American family that opened it in 1894, and I've never met anyone who's eaten there that didn't love it.
