Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Does anyone subscribe to GenealogyBank
Hello. I search all documents on GenealogyBank. There is no listing. The obits start from 1977 to today. I looked for historical events as well. I could find nothing for that year. The only record that I could find was SS Death Index - Antone Leal born 2/7/1890 and died Sept 1963 in california. Thank you for the information on NEPS. I keep reading about it but I didn't know anything about what and how it was used. Thanks again. I went to the genealogias submenu for Azores (which gave me a choice of Pico, Faial or Sao Jorge)and then clicked on the map for Lages do Pico and got the villages within the council area. Once there, I clicked on the Union Jack flag to get everything in English. Here's the direct link to Calheta de Nesquim : http://www.neps.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=Calheta;lang=en Type in any name you're looking for and see what comes up. Try omitting a name sometimes is also helpful. Such as only use Manuel Silva when looking for Manuel Borba Silva (I'm making up a name here) to see who comes up. People often changed names over the course of their lifetime to distinguish themselves from someone else in the village or to honor someone who has passed. If it still doesn't make sense after you've tried it out. I'll write out more specific instructions later. I'm somewhat limited for time as I'm at work right now. Hope this helps. This came about because of the Maria Jose, Maria Elena, etc. that had no surname when they were baptized. The program I use made the second name come up as a surname. In FTM, you just type the name into the family page and enter \\ after the name. This makes the first name come up when you search for someone. I found this helped me find names quicker for those people who had several surnames and also those who had a first and middle name and no surname. For me, the name and baptismal/birth date (or approximate dates) make it a quicker way to identify someone. I would say there is no correct way to enter names. When this name things comes up, I enter in the notes the name as I first find it; then I enter the date and source for any change in the name.
