Jesse, I got that but as you go throught the alphabet the numbers are not
straight sequential but jump from 100 to 110 and then 114 etc. I thought
maybe they might be the pages. There are no numbers on the individuala
baptisms so I can't figure out what they could be other than page numbers!!
Good luck on trying to figure it out. If you do, let us on the list know. I
have someone that is searching in Lisbon and it would help to know what the
numbers mean.

Thanaks, Rosemarie

Thank you for the reply Rosemarie. Unfortunately, I believe the numbers
must mean something else. I tried this on a few different names, as the
book's pages ARE numbered, but this doesn't work. I guess it makes sense
though. The names are semi-alphabetically listed it looks like, and the
numbers increase with them.

2010-07-01 Thread Rosemarie Capodicci
Jesse, since I couldn't find a document number on any of the baptisms I would
venture to say that it is the page number. My computer is running so slow
tonight that I couldn't keep checking back and forth between the index and the
pages. If yours is running faster try to pick a name and go to the number of
the page that is given next to the name in the index.

I mentioned the index in my post a few hours ago... looks like it might not
be what I initially thought.

The baptismo book begins with a list of names, presumably those in the book,
followed by numbers. The numbers repeat but also steadily increase.

I thought it was an index but this doesn't appear to be the case. Could
anyone tell me what this list means and how, if possible, to utilize it?

Thank you very much Hermano. This website is great. Lucky for me the Lisboa
records seem to be some of the first put online.

I'm not sure if I have quite enough information yet to trace this line (I need
to find Custodio's casamento; hopefully it's in Rosario and not somewhere in P
Delgada) but I'm taking a look through the Baptismo book for the 1740s... I
think the continental people had the right idea; there's an index at the
beginning! What a dream!

Hi Jesse,

You can order the film for S.Sebastao in Lisbon and keep on looking. You
can see if his line is listed in the Rodrigo Rodrigues book. I believe you
will only find vital records, but if you find out otherwise, let the list
know.

Yes, grandparents names fall off by the 1700s. Usually they don't appear
much before the mid-1800s, so if you were seeing them in the early 1800s,
you were really, really lucky.
