Sam, the word after casado could that be something like the word for confession. I can read natural of the parish of Sao Tiago, place of Ribeira Seca, something? of the village (Villa) of Calheta, island of Sao Jorge. I really can't make anything else out other than the date of death (4 Jan 1844). Is there anything else of import in the document? I haven't been able to find Manuel's birth record so, I was hoping his death record might give me his parents names. As always, thanks for any help with this. Pam, I show his birth year to be 1778 but; have not been able to find his birth record. Perhaps, I've been looking 10 years to late. Thanks for the info. it could be a big help! Joaquin, Manuel is my 3rd great grandfather. I guess we've found our connection. Do you have any clue what our connection would be called, i.e. 5th cousins, 8th cousins, etc.?? Also, if the word after casado is the word for confession, any idea what that would indicate? Perhaps that he died with or without making his last confession?
