Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Name Indexes

Hi again E

There are lots of records for Napoli, Italy in Familysearch.org's digital
collection, just scroll to the bottom of the first page and click on
"Europe" and then scroll down to Italy. I tried Triest, Italy and nothing
came up but there were other Triests listed and I didn't have time to
check (I'm at work!) LOL

HI E

I believe that some of Naples records are online at Familysearch.org. I
haven't looked lately but I should because Tony's grandparents on one side
are from there, we think.

I don't believe that there are any records for Trieste. I have looked
before trying to help other Sicilians who have relatives born there and
have had no luck.

Amen!! Rosemarie.

By the way, how well voiced are you on research in Italy? I could surely
use some help in the Trieste and Naples area. I do not have parishes and
only estimated years for these people :-(

[AZORES-Genealogy] Name Indexes

2012-03-07 Thread rcapodc
Dear Listers,

I have been reminded as I followed the last number of emails regarding the
spelling of "Portugal" on Ancestry that no index should ever be relied
upon as "gospel". You always need to read the original record to verify
what the index has listed. Last evening as I helped a patron at our Family
History Center I had this fact brought home to me once again. We were
looking for his Italian grandparents, Giovanni and Maria/Marie Crivello.
We couldn't find them at first so we started looking for their children,
some from previous marriages ,Davi, and some of their own, Crivello. We
finally found the family in Pittsburg, Contra Costa, California under
CARSWELLS! In 1910. Giovanni was using John for one but Carswells?? We
clicked on "view image" and their they were. The original writing of
Crivello was written over but I don't really understand how the indexer
read Carswells as their were Crivellos in the household listed as John's
sons! It just proves that indexes are not infalible and you should always
check the original document if you can.
