[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: more on Jewish naming

2012-04-16 Thread Shirl Sereque

Hello, again!

On the pages I copied from Geneall and Azores Genealogy, FORTUNATA was the
woman's first name. Her husband was FORTUNATO SEKY. Their first son had SREKY
for his surname and the second son had SERIQUI as his surname. Since I had
read that the second son would have the mother's surname, would this in fact be
FORTUNATA's surname? I know about gender endings from my Spanish, but
FORTUNATO doesn't come up as a surname in my ancestry searches.

Hi, all (again)!

Karlushko gave me names of books to check out, some of which I already have,
and others I will look into. But I still would like answers to the following
questions:

1.) According to Geneall and Azores Genealogy, Abraham Seriqui's mother was
FORTUNATA (no surname given). I did read somewhere that the first son had the
father's surname and the second son had the mother's surname. Would that mean
her surname was SERIQUI? When Abraham died in Boston, his mother's name was
listed as ESTHER MARKS. Which would be correct?

2.) Abraham had a daughter, MIRIAM (MARIANA) BENSABAT (her mother's surname),
BENSAUDE, BENARUS (her father's surname). Two questions: Which first name did
she go by. Miriam or the Jewish version, Mariana? She has BENSAUDE in her name,
but the Bensaudes say we're not related. Why would that be in her name, when
it's not in her siblings' names? This name was found in Geneall and Azores
Genealogy.

3.) Another ancestor (in Geneall and Ancestry) married JOAQUIM AFLALO (ISAAC
OHAMA). Why the two very different names? Which is really my ancestor? (Which
tree should I be looking for?)

Thanking you in advance for any information.

It's been a whileis this Geneall you are making reference to genealogy
site that someone else has posted? If it's the same site I am thinking of,
someone posted info on my family on this site at it is totally incorrect
including the spelling of the surname.
