Nowadays you'll see Ágata as a first name, and Águeda as a last name.
Águeda is also
a city in Aveiro.

Marie,

My Agueda's were first names. I haven't seen it as a surname before. Possible
your ancestor adopted a female ancestors name as a surname but I hd it maybe a
more common surname than I realize.

Yes, Agada, Agueda and Aguida are the same name, equivalent of English Agatha,
and all obsolete, current form in Portuguese is Agata (sometimes Agatha).

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Are Agada and Agueda the same name?

2016-07-04 Thread Marie
My grandfather, John Antonio Borba at age 11, first settled in the San Luis
Obispo area of California in 1901; and lived there for about 10 years. He
then moved south to the desert of Brawley and El Centro, He and his
brothers finally settlied in the Chino/ Ontario, area of California in
about 1924 and remained there for the rest of their lives. We know of no
other close Borba family in California. I sure wish we did. I have
verified this with my last surviving aunt , age 92, who has a very good
memory of people and family history.
