Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealog Records and Cursive Writing
Yes I think that is not good that they don't teach cursive. My son can't read my writing because I write half cursive and half in print. I first thought can't you read lol but the problem was they don't teach cursive. On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, Cheri Mello gfsche...@gmail.com wrote: I was reading something about cursive. Just a few people have them. And if you have a rare record and no record player, you have to find someone to convert it to a CD or mp3 or whatever file for you. And probably pay them a bit of money to do so. Yea, I never much thought about it as a problem. My father and his father had beautiful penmanship.I print, but in elementary school we always used cursive.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealog Records and Cursive Writing From: Pam Santos pamsanto...@gmail.com Date: Wed, October 15, 2014 2:50 pm To: "azores@googlegroups.com" azores@googlegroups.com Yes I think that is not good that they don't teach cursive. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealog Records and Cursive Writing
I didn’t even realize that they didn’t teach cursive in school anymore! So, everyone prints? Amazing! Sent from Windows Mail From: elaine sharp Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2014 10:48 AM To: azores Funny Cheri would mention understanding cursive writing to one of our newbies as I was thinking the other day that if we don't translate these documents now, how will our grandchildren should they decide to take up genealogy in the future as many of them do not write cursive anymore and most, if not all, of the records are not only in Portuguese, Latin, Italian, etc. but they are also in cursive. When I write to my children/grandchildren, birthday cards, thank you note, etc., I always write in cursive in hopes they, at least, will be able to make out this hen-scratching as one of my grandchildren calls it. Cheri, FYI I just bought a new ! vinyl LP album at Barnes Noble last week. What's old is new again. LOL Don't count cursive out. The powers that be may realize their mistake. After all, legal papers and such still need to be signed. Just thought I'd try to make you smile.
