Dot and I now live in Peoria, Arizona, moved here 6 months ago. I have
been working on Bob and my cousins who descend from those in your file. I was

E,
I thought that might be it; however, all of the records had the same writing on
them. Since my husband is the oldest grandson of this marriage, we do not have
any of her "papers." The rest of the family does not seem to be at all
interested in documenting her birth place.

 There is no such note.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The elusive, "Maria Cristo"

2019-01-08 Thread 'celeste perry' via Azores Genealogy
They were married in Bristol, R.I. on Nov. 24, 1907 at St. Mary's Church. I
saw the church record of the marriage when I visited St. Mary's this summer.
There was written in the entry (and the other entries of that page) that said,
"Copy sent." I asked what that meant and the person to whom I spoke did not
know. I thought maybe it was a copy of the marriage that had been sent to the
Diocese or back to the Azores.
I went to the diocese office and was told there were no records there of this
type.

I do have a marriage certificate signed by Asst. Pastor, Clyde J. Walsh on
March 3, 1953, (when I began the search of the marriage.)

Maria Cristo and her husband, Filippe P. Da Silva (aka, Philip Perreira Da
Silva or Felipe Pereira da Silva; Felippe Silva and/or Philip Perry) lived with
Maria Cristo's brother, Seraphine Morais (Morris), at 15 Estabrook St. Bristol,
R.I. in the 1910 census they were still at 15 Estabrook St., Bristol, RI. and
Maria Cristo's mother, Jacintha Libiana, lived there too.

In the 1920 census, they lived at the same address with Jose Perry.

In the 1930 census, they lived at 66 Blossom St., E. Providence, R.I.

Thank you for any help you can give me in finding "The elusive Maria Cristo's
birth record.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The elusive, "Maria Cristo"

2019-01-07 Thread 'celeste perry' via Azores Genealogy
Yes, I did find the marriage for Maria Cristo's parents. I make a notation in
my FTM file by adding ** after an event to help me remember that I have a copy
of the document for the event. I have documents for all the baptisms,
marriages and almost all the deaths going back to the beginning of the church
records for this family.

When one of her sister's died in Mass. she left "$100.00 to my sister, Mary
Perry, in Oakland, CA." From the baptism records I have and the fact that
Maria Cristo lived in Oakland, CA at the time of her sister's death, I believe
the family "thought" she was a biological member of this family. I just don't
have the birth document to "prove" it.

It has been awhile since I worked on Maria Cristo's birth. I was told by her
daughter (the oldest of five children) that her mother (Maria Cristo) was 5
years old when her father, Joao Moraes da Costa died. So, I looked in each
village that "touched" where her family lived for Maria Cristo's birth. (I
thought maybe her mother had been visiting in nearby village when she was
born). No luck there.

Also, Maria Cristo had a younger brother who also immigrated to the U.S. I
have had contact with one of this brother's great grandson and he has not found
a baptism for Maria Cristo in his research.

I am hoping a relative of this family will find something about Maria Cristo,
so I post on this list once a year and hope to find the information I have been
searching for over 20 years!

I appreciate any and all the help this list has provided since it began.

We’re you able to find a
marriage record for Joao Morais Da Costa and Jacinth Libania
in Lomba da Santa Barbara? These are the parents of Maria
Cristo Morais if I’m following it correctly.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The "elusive Maria Cristo"

2018-07-06 Thread 'celeste perry' via Azores Genealogy
Yes, Nancy, the information you sent does match the information about Maria's
family. I found baptismal records in Lomba da Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel that
matches her siblings. Seraphine was her brother, the family with whom I found
her living in one of the Census. I did find other siblings' baptismal records.

The death record of her "sister" Ana listed Maria Cristo in an unusual way. In
Ana's will she left, "100 dollars to my sister, Mary Perry in Oakland, CA." I
believe Ana thought Maria Cristo was her sister. Maria Cristo also lived with
her "brother" Seraphine in several of the R.I. Census.

Without the actual baptismal records, I have assumptions and actual proof of
her being a member of this family, just no record of her birth.

Without finding an actual baptismal (birth in that time frame) record, I still
can't prove she was biologically a member of that family.

Thank you for the help you are providing to me and others on the Azores List.

 Celeste, I looked up
the passenger list for the Peninsular, sailing from St.
 Michael's 19 Feb 1904, arriving New York 1st (looks
like) Mar 1904. Ancestry's indexer clearly got the
nationality wrong, since the actual list shows Maria and her
family as Portuguese. The family group included Seraphim
Moraes, 23; Rosa C. Moraes, 24 (looks like); Rosa Barbara
Moraes, 15; Luzia Moraes, 17; and Maria Moraes, 16. The
family is headed for Bristol, RI, for Seraphim's cousin
Joao da Costa (looks like), 368 Hope St. I hope this matches
 your other information.

Use the information and search the Ellis Island website to look at the original
ship manifest. You can use this link:
https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/family-history-center To search the
records you need to create an account which is free. Need to go out now but
perhaps I can look later

Celeste,

In Oct/Nov of 2017 I emailed you privately the documentation for your Maria
Moraes. At the time I took a temporary membership with Ancestry to search for
your Maria and I'm pretty sure I found her. Ancestry shows the 16 year old
Maria travelling from Saint Michael's as Puerto Rican Nationality.

I'm attaching the records.
