RE: [backstage] Techcrunch UK...

2006-12-14 Thread Ian Forrester
For those who don't know.

Sam Sethi (previous editor of Tech Crunch UK) was fired yesterday -
http://static.flickr.com/129/321482769_e3596112cc.jpg?v=0

This came off the back of a couple of blog posts by Sam Sethi on the Le Web 3.

Mike Arrington owner and creator of Tech Crunch wrote this -
http://www.crunchnotes.com/?p=322 where he put Tech Crunch UK on hold for now.

So what do people think? Specially TechCrunch UK being pulled out the market
for now?

I agree with what Ian wrote on his blog today:

we need a techcrunch uk which is based in the uk and has the uk
landscape in mind

not some global rollout of a US based blog trying to be localised for
the sake of its own exansion as per Londonist, Metrobloggers and the
rest of them, which is exactly what techcrunch uk turns out to be if a
US based owner can fire the UK based editor.

[backstage] Video Encoder

2006-12-14 Thread Davy Mitchell

Hi Folks,

Sorry if this is OT.

Working on a new prototype and this request might give a little away :-) !!

Anyway I am looking for a windows video encoder (command line?) that
can take static images and spit out something video webby and also be
as lossless as possible. I've tried Google and not found anything
practical.

Free or very close to it preferably.

Thanks,
Davy

Re: [backstage] Video Encoder

2006-12-14 Thread Richard P Edwards

Davy,

If I lack the connection with command line this is how I do
what you describe.

Apple iPhoto import photos in to a library.. set up the slideshow...
Then use Snapz Pro X to capture the screen as a movie, or mpeg.
The H.264 codec is available which seems the most up to date in the
Mac world, or so I read

a while ago.
Snapz Pro does Windows.

Hope this is helpful.
Regards
Richard
