Re: [backstage] iPlayer search problem
Out of interest what is the thinking behind this URL structure? Could we not have bbc.co.uk/programmes/topgear etc? Is there any chance you could give some indication if the program has got signing as there doesn't appear to be any clear indications in either iPlayer or the programmes pages. RE: [backstage] iPlayer search problem
hi adam pips (the database behind both iplayer and /programmes) allows an episode to have multiple 'versions'. each of these versions can have associated on demand availability. and each version has a 'derivation reason' which may be: lengthened, shortened, signed, with burnt in sub-titles etc at the moment iplayer is only exposing a single version of each episode (which may or may not have signing). In time (I believe) multiple versions will be made available. when that happens we'll be able to provide a choice of version where available and (for /programmes at least) navigation faceted by the availability of sign language erm, does that answer your question? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Adam Leach Sent: Fri 12/28/2007 7:02 PM To: backstage@lists.bbc.co.uk Subject: Re: [backstage] iPlayer search problem Michael Smethurst wrote: in the meantime you could try /programmes top gear is at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mj59 Excellent, i didn't know that had the streaming programs, plus you get the longer description with the programmes page. Thanks Michael, Yeah, sort of answers my question, although i didn't really explain the question too well. My point was that this top gear episode (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b008gzy6) is signed, yet there is no way on knowing that until you start watching it. If i had downloaded this via the p2p client i would have been a bit disappointed, but then again its available so its better then nothing. The navigation on the Programmes beta site is great, especially the ability to quickly navigate between previous and later episode in the series. Makes it very easy to find episodes that you might have missed. Apart from me being fussy about a few things, iPlayer is great and i'm yet to find a friend who isn't impressed with it Adam -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Adam Leach Sent: Fri 12/28/2007 7:02 PM To: backstage@lists.bbc.co.uk Subject: Re: [backstage] iPlayer search problem Michael Smethurst wrote: in the meantime you could try /programmes top gear is at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mj59 Excellent, i didn't know that had the streaming programs, plus you get the longer description with the programmes page. And more importantly, why did you just send a suspicious file in you email? What are you doing sending .dat files anyway? Andy Okay - I'm getting quietly tired of yet more BBC people sending .dat files as attachments in their emails and you keeping quietly schtum! Either correct everybody or correct no one. Re: [backstage] Broadcasters to launch joint VoD service
I'm sorry you feel that way. Outlook 2003 is standard issue on most BBC desktops and laptops, and you know how weird outlook can be as default :) I spend most of my time using Thunderbird ;) Oh quick question for everyone - should I switch over to Evolution?
