[backstage] Is DRM on its last throes at last?
http://www.betanews.com/article/Is_DRM_on_its_last_throes_at_last/1231547605 let's not miss the big picture. Look at the way Apple has deployed DRM -- not for piracy reasons but for pure anti-competition reasons. He cited code in new Apple gadgetry that locks your new iPod to the iTunes file manager, and mentioned the company's push for third-party accessories manufacturers to incorporate licensed authentication chips in their wares. This is a company that really loves DRM an awful lot, mainly to encourage lock-in and discourage competition. -- Brian Butterworth follow me on twitter: http://twitter.com/briantist web: http://www.ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

The Long Tail is a good book but the idea is facing some criticism http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08%2F12%2F23%2F1745248from=rss Thankfully Chris Anderson is embracing the doubts and it could just be down to a general oversimplification of the primary concept. http://www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/2008/06/excellent-hbr-p.html Robin Doran bbc.co.uk -Original Message- From: owner-backst...@lists.bbc.co.uk [mailto:owner-backst...@lists.bbc.co.uk] On Behalf Of Fearghas McKay Sent: 09 January 2009 09:52 To: backstage@lists.bbc.co.uk Subject: Re: [backstage] [Fsuk-manchester] Free for All On 8 Jan 2009, at 21:55, Tim Dobson wrote: Interesting thing to hear.. and the Chris Anderson book on the Long Tail is well worth a read. f - Sent via the backstage.bbc.co.uk discussion group. Communities are built around people who are willing to exchange valuables (insert definition here). The credit crunch has hit us because we are no longer confident with our exchange systems. The only way forward is being confident about our exchanges, trust me.
