I looked into this a while back, the problem with it is it changes so infrequently it isn't actually worth building something around it. For instance, prior to it being raised to critical a couple of days ago it had been severe since around August 2006 (I think) - and when it does change the media tend to cover it anyway. Re: [backstage] Web Service For Terror Alert Level?
Well: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3396 Or, by far and away my favourite: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1501 If you really care... http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/08/britain_adopts.html "A terror alert that instills a vague feeling of dread or panic echoes the very tactics of the terrorists. There are essentially two ways to terrorize people. The first is to do something spectacularly horrible, like flying airplanes into skyscrapers and killing thousands of people. The second is to keep people living in fear with the threat of doing something horrible. Decades ago, that was one of the IRA's major aims. Inadvertently, the [Home Office] is achieving the same thing." So "way to go" government and media - . David - Sent via the backstage.bbc.co.uk discussion group. Re: [backstage] Web Service For Terror Alert Level?
I don't see you need a web service - you should be able to just use a constant: string terrorAlertLevel = "Hyped out of all reasonable proportion in order to further erode what few civil liberties we have left" Cheers, RIch.
