[BackupPC-users] Email Notifications - Via another MTA rather than sendmail

2006-07-10 Thread Ken Gregoire
Is there a way to setup backuppc to use a different MTA (email system)
where it has to provide a url, username and password to send email
notifications. I don't have sendmail on the backuppc system and would
like backuppc to send email notifications via a standard email system.

Thanks in advance.
Ken

I found in the Xferlog file following message :

 Fatal error (bad version):

The decimal value 757955594 is the first four bytes of the unexpected
text or error from the remote machine. In hex it is 2D2D7C0A or
--|\r. Does your .cshrc or ssh login sequence emit this string?

This text should appear in ascii after bad version. I'm surprised
to see the rest of that message is empty.

[BackupPC-users] OT - Minimum specs for a BackupPC server

Subject: [K12OSN] OT - Minimum specs for a BackupPC server
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi folks,

I tried emailing the backuppc-users list but my email keeps bouncing, so
I thought I'd try here.

Almost every night I get an email from my backuppc server telling me
that the backup process was aborted due to signal=PIPE. I've tried
upping the timeout to no avail. Some nights the backup works, often it
works when I do it manually, but not always. Anyway, my server is very
wimpy. I'm running a Celeron 466, 256 of RAM and the backup drive is
78% full. Which of any of that would you think could be causing the
problem? Or do you think this isn't the issue. top shows my CPU
pegged at 99% for a lot of the backup. My backups are usually taking
about 650+ minutes when they manage to finish.

Thanks a lot, list.

ck

You have to subscribe to the list from the same address you use
when posting.

A timeout would give signal=ALRM.

If you are using rsync as the backup method the entire
directory listing is transferred first so there is a
certain amount of RAM overhead per file. If you are
backing up machines with a huge number of files you might
be running out of memory.
