Hi Xuo,

you could connect home using VPN. If configured properly, you may even
get the same internal IP as when you are at home.

Or, you could set up some internal DNS at home, that will return two A
records for your computer - both home and work IP addresses. Backuppc
(Or any other software) will then try both of them to connect.

[BackupPC-users] How to backup a laptop over internet

2017-05-22 Thread Xuo
Hi,
I am using BackupPC on my laptop when it is connected to my local
network at home.
But, when I'm not at home (durin the work week), I don't know how to do.
I'm not in some hotels, ... but in another flat (that I rent), where I
have a static IP and where I could open some ports if necessary (ssh, ...).
I think I could define my laptop ip (on my BackupPC server
configuration) using my remote ip adress, but this wouldn't work when I
come back home.

What should I do to perform these backups from my server (located at
home) to my laptop located either on my local network or remotely (on
internet).

Regards.

Xuo.

Hi,
Is this backuppc V3.x?
There used to be an issue with smb (smb has changed behavior).
For V4 it work for sure (i use it).
For V3.x I saw some update, so the latest released version should work.

Dieter

[BackupPC-users] Help with backups of Windows clients

2017-05-22 Thread Juan Manuel Perrote

Hello, I have problems with Windows clients, via smbclient.

The backup is realized, but always finish with the error --> No files dumped
for share base.

If I have backupc configured for two diferents shares, only the first share is
backuped and later stop.

Running: /usr/bin/smbclient fichador\\base -U Fichador\\fichador1 -E -d 1
-c tarmode\ full\ verbose -Tc -
full backup started for share base

Xfer PIDs are now 25915,25914
WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated

Not saving this as a partial backup since it has fewer files than the prior one

Re: [BackupPC-users] Replication

2017-05-22 Thread Johan Ehnberg
Hi,

Indeed that is currently not implemented in BackupPC, since this would
require all backups to stop. That in turn is not may not feasible in a
large environment or where backup schedules are tight. But as an
optional feature, it is interesting.

Basically any previous backup will be coherent, so snapshoting at any
time is fine when you are aware of this limit.

Of course you can always check for running processes in a while loop and
wait until there are no backups running.

This is the kind of details I might be interested in documenting.

Best regards,
Johan

Hello,

Ok, but how to be sure not to replicate the datastore of backuppc when
this one realizes operations on this same datastore?

Philippe.

If there is broader demand, I'll consider wruting some documentation on
how to set it up.
