I'm not sure, but I don't expect it to be faster than rsync. You might
want to try with one client.

BTW: What's your setup? Server hardware, client hardware, amount of
data, network connection?

Yes, if you do not change share names, it's all compatible. (Note that
some excludes might have to be modified - I remember there were some
subtle differences in file exclusion handling).

 Would I maintained all the benefits of rsyncd starting with the 2nd backup?

Ok, I will try it (in the next days or weeks). I would believe that it is
faster because they didn't have to compare the files before transmission.

Server: 2x1,3GHz, 2GB RAM, software raid5, 20MBit download rate.
Clients: Vista and XP (2-3 GHz CPU), more than 20GB data, 1-2MBit upload
rate (and that is my problem ;-)

The first backup of each client needs a really long time.

Is it possible to switch back to rsyncd after this initial backup?
Would I maintained all the benefits of rsyncd starting with the 2nd backup?
