[Bacula-users] Remote Director
Hi Bacula Users, Does anyone have experience setting up Storage Daemons at different sites from the Director? I'm thinking that it would be really nice to have a central console where I can see and control the backups of other sites, but I don't have the bandwidth to send all the data to the central location. If I have a backup device and Storage Daemon local to the clients I want to back up, I think their FDs will send the data straight to their local SD, with the traffic to the Director being minimal by comparison. As near as I can tell from the diagram at the end of the following page, what I want to do should be possible: http://www.bacula.org/en/dev-manual/What_is_Bacula.html I'm curious for other people's experiences with this sort of setup - how much trouble was it, how much bandwidth does the SD actually use to talk with the Director, what gotchas did you run into, are there any security or permissions issues to keep in mind, etc. It would be nice if I could give someone at each site the ability to restore their own site's files, but not files from other sites. [Bacula-users] bacula-fd causes firewall hang
Hi, I just installed a new firewall based on CentOS 5.3 and Shorewall. This is a replacement for an older firewall, also using Shorewall. Ports are opened, and the FD on the firewall can talk to the director. Any time I start a backup job on the firewall, the network seems to hang. Even after I stop the jobs, the only way I can restore the network is to bring it down and then back up. Has anyone experienced this before? I'll gladly listen to all suggestions, this is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance. JBB -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. The error sounds like a version mismatch to me. What is the exact version of your bacula-director package? I think it must be 3.x to work with a 3.x file daemon. If you are running a 3.x director, then try setting debug level 200 and see what output that generates. Re: [Bacula-users] Scheduling question
I'm fairly certain that when you do a "status dir", no matter how many days you specify, you'll only see the soonest occuring job of a certain level. So, if you have a Full, Differential and an Incremental, of a certain job defined then only the next of each of those will be shown. If you change your command to "status dir days=500" you should see pretty much the same output as you currently have. -John On Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 03:40:39PM -0600, jw...@asetech.com wrote: > > Bit of a bacula newbie and I am having a problem with a schedule > that I am trying to create. [Bacula-users] duplicate job control
Dear All, Bacula (3.0.2) is configured to make daily backups of some systems. Full backups unfortunately take more then one day to complete and I want to avoid that duplicate jobs start (or are queued) before the full backup is completed. No duplicate job control directives are configured. If I understand the manual correctly (perhaps it's an interpretation error of me) http://www.bacula.org/en/dev-manual/New_Features.html#SECTION00310 this should not happen. I had a quick look in the source code and found this code in src/dird/job.c: bool allow_duplicate_job(JCR *jcr) { JOB *job = jcr->job; JCR *djcr;/* possible duplicate */ if (job->AllowDuplicateJobs) { return true; } if (!job->AllowHigherDuplicates) { --> code related to "Cancel Queued Duplicates: and "Cancel Running Duplicates" here } return true; } Apparently "Cancel Queued Duplicates" and "Cancel Running Duplicates" are only evaluated when "Allow Higher Duplicates" is set to "no" - not default. Is this an error in the documentation, code or me not correctly understanding the manual or code?
