Re: [Bacula-users] Migrate File-Storage without autochanger to vchanger Skript?

2011-08-08 Thread Eric Pratt
I am in the process of doing exactly this same thing but for a different reason.

If only a single job can access your storage at a time, then you
should look for a Maximum Concurrent Jobs directive in your
configuration files. You can find this in a number of different
resources. So just grep for it and track down any resources that
might be limiting the number of jobs writing concurrently to the same
storage/device. Also be sure to check the manual on Maximum
Concurrent Jobs directive for each resource. Even if you're not
setting this anywhere, they have default values and there is at least
one of these that is '1' by default. From your description, I would
check specifically for a Maximum Concurrent Jobs directive set to '1'
in the device resource of the storage daemon and/or in the storage
resource of the storage daemon.

I also thought about the different methods of migrating the data, but
decided it wasn't worth doing. I have vchanger auto-create the new
volumes with initmag. I then use Bacula's 'label barcodes' command to
bulk label the empty volumes vchanger created. I tell the existing
Bacula job to start using the new autochanger device but I keep the
old volumes on disk until their files and jobs expire. When they do
expire, I then remove the old volumes from disk and use 'delete
volume' in Bacula. Once you've done that for all old volumes, you're
completely migrated to vchanger.

The reason I chose this method is that the data in these volumes can
remain available for restores until their original job and file
retention periods expire. Since you use the same job resource
regardless of the storage device, you still get the same file and job
retentions automatically applied to the files and jobs stored in the
older volumes. This continues to clean your database and allows your
backups to continue in the way you want. And of course, you only have
minimal work to clean up the old volumes and files. If you have a
retention period of a year or less and are not moving large amounts of
changed data per night, this is probably a good option for you. If
your backups have retention periods in the years and are moving large
amounts of changed data per night, this will still work for you, but
may not be the best option.

 Hi,

my VirtualFull backups keep failing on me as I have many of them. They
run from 2 different File Pools and target 1 autochanger Tape library.
No matter how many concurrent jobs I declare and despite I activate
Spool Data and it actually does the spooling, only a single job can
access a singel File storage at a time. So now one job waits for the
autochanger while the other waits for the File and so they are in a
 deadlock.
The idea is now to just use the vchanger and provide multiple File
drives to bacula to get rid of the issue. Obviously the File-Volumes are
already written and labeled and the naming is incompatibe to the
 vchanger-names.
 - Is there a different way to solve this deadlock situation permanently,
even if the jobs have to wait some time after being scheduled because of
  other jobs blocking the devices?
 - Is there an easy way to make the current File volumes known to the
  vchanger and Bacula?
The current approach would be to stop bacula, move and rename the
files and update the occurances of the File names in Job and Media
  tables.

More recently (12 months) we've switched to a Neo 8000 with 7 LTO5

Fibre connected libraries/drives just look like scsi devices. It's

Hello,

I believe that SQLite will return with an SQLITE_FULL error if your run
out of disk space, OR if the value of the inserted row's rowid or INTEGER
PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT column exceeds a maximum value (2147483647 on a
32 bit, 9223372036854775807 on a 64 bit).

[...]

To check the second condition you could SELECT max(rowid) from category;
and see if you are at or near the maximum value for your platform.
- -

If that's not the case either, your best bet is to take this up with the
SQLite developers, or to migrate to a 'proper' database backend like
MySQL or postgres. (The Bacula manual does state 'we do not recommend it
[SQLite] for production use'.

forgetting bacula for a second... can you actually run mtx yourself?

mtx -f /dev/changer unload 1 0

I think not... sounds like there isn't any /dev/changer - try it a
different way...

mtx -f /dev/sg? unload 1 0

Obviously replace /dev/sg? with whichever your autoloader identifies as
which should be identifiable with 'cat /proc/scsi/scsi'

If that command is working outside of bacula, you should then know how
to configure bacula-sd.conf which then should make the autochanger test

[Bacula-users] disk backup -- swapping out disks?

2011-08-08 Thread hymie!

So the question has come up about storing our backups off-site.

We're using disk backups, with two USB disks. Each disk is a
Storage, and each Storage has a single Pool, and each Pool has max
200 4GB volumes. Part of my configuration is below.

What I'd like to do is buy a second matching set of USB disks,
take the existing disks off, mount the new disks in the same place,
and just have Bacula pick up where it left off, seeing no volumes
and creating them as it needs to.

(We do full backups once a month anyway, and I would probably do it that
morning.)

Then in a month, I will do it again, take the disks off, put the
old disks back in, and Bacula will just notice all of its old volumes
are back.

Is this a workable solution?

They are set in

  - JobDefaults that are included everywhere (100)
  - Clients (default, but I only want 1 job/client)
  - Storage (100 for files, 4 for my tape drive, all with spooled data)

data is ~12TB on file storage and I have only 500GB left and due to the
'missing' concurrent jobs I am unable to migrate some data to tape
during the day to get more space to finally start a decent file pool.
Just running round in circles.

Subject: [Bacula-users] please mount volume or label a new one

Something happened to cause bacula to stop auto-labeling for one of my
clients. I've manually labeled it 2 or 3 days in a row now, initially
thinking it just needed a kick start for some reason to get back on track. I
think this started because I was doing some testing of some settings and
then ended up deleting an unwanted backup file that bacula created but never
started filling with backup data.

All other clients auto-label just fine every day and all clients, including
the faulty one, are configured exactly the same. Plus the faulty client was
auto-labeling prior to this event perfectly fine as well. So I'm inclined to
believe that this problem is state-related rather than configuration
related.

I am running version 3.0.3.

Can anyone tell me what I must do to correct this problem?

Verify if *Maximum Volumes* parameter.

You should be able to use Bacula's migration feature to move jobs on an
old volume to a new volume on the vchanger autochanger. Check the
Migration and Copy chapter of the Bacula Main Reference. This will
require a new pool for the vchanger volumes. Volumes in the old pool
will be moved to vcahnger volumes in a new/different pool. Once a volume
is successfully migrated to the new volume, the old volume can be
deleted and its space reclaimed. In other words, it is the same as
migrating a disk volume to a tape volume. After all of the volumes are
migrated, then change the client Jobs to use the new pool and vchanger
storage.

[Bacula-users] Ignore fileset changes

2011-08-08 Thread Olle Romo
Hi All,

'Ignore Fileset Changes = yes' doesn't seem to have the effect I was
hoping for... If a drive is missing on one run, the next time Bacula
sees the drive it will proceed to backup the entire thing again. I'm
sure there's an obvious way to avoid this but I can't seem to find
it... Any suggestions warmly welcomed.

All best,
Olle
