[Bacula-users] multi-drive autoch: Job is waiting on Storage storagedev-LTO

2012-05-25 Thread Martian333
Hi John

Thanks for your reply - yep both jobs are using the same pool, there is only
one.

Here is my jobsdef.conf file:

JobDefs {
Name = Vbackup
Type = Backup
Level = VirtualFull
Schedule = DailyVirtualFull
Pool = Default
#Pool = TapeCopy
Messages = Standard
FileSet = Full Set
Prefer Mounted Volumes = no
Priority = 100
Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 2
}

Thanks again

[Bacula-users] Volumes in pool with VolStatus Error

2012-05-25 Thread Robert Kromoser
Hi everybody.

When I do a list media pool=poolname then I see that the 2 Volumes
in the pool

has VolStatus Error. What is the problem?

Can anyone give me instructions to bring the tape to a useable state
again?

br Robert

I think the problem in that case is convincing bacula to load the same
pool using 2 volumes at the same time. I have seen that before. I am
not sure of the solution. I have a two drive changer since 2006 but
for years I just avoid the problem by using different pools.

I believe the following works:
Use the update volume command to set the Vol status to append. Then
purge the volume.

[Bacula-users] multi-drive autoch: Job is waiting on Storage storagedev-LTO

2012-05-25 Thread Martian333
Yes we have tried a few different configuration parameters which we thought may
allow this scenario to work but having no luck, perhaps two pools is the easier
way to do this.

Would there be any possibility that you wouldn't mind posting your configs or
an example that I could take away and test (using your working config) which
will allow both drives to be utilised using two pools?

Thanks very much for your help

 backed up via SSH tunnel. This backup worked perfectly while the front-end
 server was 10.04 (Bacula 5.0.1) but fails now the versions differ. The
 Windows servers are fine.

It is surprising that Bacula 5.0.1 client can't talk to a 5.0.3
director/storage.

What is the error message?

Re: [Bacula-users] Large number of tapes?

2012-05-25 Thread Erich Weiler
Hi John,

Thanks for responding!  Reply below:
 Erich I'm looking for a little advice on a setup I have here. I have
 Erich 300TB of non-changing data that I need to archive. I have a
 Erich Dell ML6000 tape library that holds like 41 LTO-5 tapes
 Erich (connected to a CentOS 6 Server), and I have a pile of hundreds
 Erich of tapes to do this job with.

 Quick question, how long do you plan on keeping this data? And how
 often do you plan on restoring it? If this is for an archive, which
 you expect to be usable for years and years, then I'd suggest that you

 a) make two copies of each set of data, bacula can do this.

 b) make sure you verify each tape that's written by reading it back,
 bacual can do this too
Yep, we actually have two backup servers with two tape libraries to make
two copies in parallel to reduce backup time. I didn't know it could
read the tape back automatically after writing each one for
verification; which directive in the config does that?

The data will be archived conceivably for 15+ years. Although by that
point I suspect we'll refresh our whole archive plan again because of
LTO-5 shelf life limitations.  ;)

This archive strategy is for DR only - we don't plan on doing restores
at all for daily stuff. If we are restoring for any reason, something
went horribly wrong...

cheers,
erich

It's in the bacula manual, and I think it's called 'verify' or
something like that. Please note, it *will* slow things down, alot,
since it now needs to re-read the tape and the filesystem chunk and
compare them.

So having multiple libraries will only get you back upto the
performance of just one library without verification.

I thought LTO-5 had a decent shelf life rating, but just making sure
you have reliable LTO-5 tape drives in 15 years might be the trick.
Anyone still got DAT and/or 8mm drives that can read their old
backups?  *grin*

Erich reason, something went horribly wrong...

Yup. The key to tape longevity is nice stable temps and nice stable
humidity levels. I'm sure any on the major offsite media vendors can
happily provide this, at a cost.

2012-05-25 Thread Luis H. Forchesatto
Hi

It's possible to restore a backup that is stored in a remote server using
bextract?

I use bextract -b /var/lib/bacula/intranet.bsr /storage/backup/
$MOUNT_POINT/smbserver where /storage/backup/ is in the local server, but
cat this directory be located on a remote server? E mean, restore from
volumes in a remote server.

Re: [Bacula-users] use the same spool file for two time recording

2012-05-25 Thread Satmarean, Mihai
Hi,
Thanks for answering,

seems that bacula does not restore directly from a Copy job,
is there a more usable way to have two copies in one job?

The Copy process is essentially identical to the Migration feature with the
exception that the Job that is copied is left unchanged. This essentially
creates two identical copies of the same backup. However, the copy is treated
as a copy rather than a backup job, and hence is not directly available for
restore. If bacula founds a copy when a job record is purged (deleted) from the
catalog, it will promote the copy as real backup and will make it available for
automatic restore.
From bacula docs

Thanks!

 we have this policy, that always we backup the data twice, one coy goes off
 site, one copy remains on-site.

 Lately we have to deal with 5 Tb + of data every job it takes 3 days with a
 LT04 device,
 so I would like to save time and use the same spool file and write it to two
 tapes after it is created.

 Could this be done?

Not directly. You may be able to create a Copy job. But that would tie
up your archive for some time.
