Hey Davide,

thanks for the heads-up, I wasn't even aware bacula web was still
being developed. I'll take a look at the new version shortly. It would
be great if you could implement some form of client group support so
one could easily determine the total backup space used by a group of
clients, for instance.

All the best keep up the good work,

Google has burried me once again as this seems to be a recurring question.

What is the best method of starting a restore without an interactive
interface. Basically, I want to be able to start a restore of the last
backup state (option 5) for a client, specifying a difference restoreclient.

In an idea world I'd like to run a script after a successful completion.

 I've tried:
 restore all client=gary-fd restoreclient=eddie-fd

but it still asks for a resture type which I want to default to 5 and then
asks me for a FileSet resource. I now only have one fileset resource for
Linux but it still insists on giving me two choices including one I no long
 have in the config files.

 Gary

Hi Gary,

you could brute-force your way into running a restore by doing lots of
echos answering bconsole's restore questions like so (from memory):

( echo restore; echo mod ; echo 3; echo ; echo yes) |
bconsole

of course you'd have to keep track of changing client and fileset
index numbers as your dir config changes.

You should be able to remove the ghost fileset using mysql and
deleting the appropriate table row in your bacula db.

Hello all,

I've just found a way to fix the problem I have.
It was dns resolution problem (see bacula logs below).

Fatal error: Bad response to Storage command: wanted 2000 OK storage ,
got 2902 Bad storage

Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out how can I enforce the file
daemon to follow symlinks on Linux filesystem.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Bacula does not follow any symbolic links. It just backups a symbolic link
as a symbolic link no matter if it points to the file or directory.
Automatically follow symbolic links threatens to uncontrolled looping. For
example when someone (user) will make a simple command: $ ln -s . a

If you want to backup a resources which was followed by symbolic link you
have to add this resources to the FileSet definition.

I am having this same issue. Up until now, it had been intermittent.
Today, I am consistently having the issue. I have 6 tape drives in my
changer. I have 4 jobs running, each using a separate tape/drive all in
the same pool. I've been manually starting another job which selects one
of the free tape drives, but is asking for a tape that is currently in use
in drive-0. I have canceled and restarted the job several times, started
a different job (it asks for the tape in drive-0), manually mounted an
available tape into drive-1, all of which has only resulted in the tape
being unmounted from drive-1 and the tape in use in drive-0 being
requested. I think it can be said that this is not a race condition.

Addendum: I used an unmount command to BLOCK the drive. This seems to
have broken the hold as the job selected the remaining open drive to use
and the tape that I'd mounted there.

Eric,

Here's how you label a tape.

1. Open bconsole

2. Type update slots

3. Select your tape drive

4. It should tell you something like Volume x was not found in
catalog. Slot=xy InChanger set to zero

5. Type label and select your tape drive where the tape is located.

6. Enter the slot number from step #4. IE: Slot=xy. Whatever value xy is.

7. Enter the correct name for the tape. If it's barcoded then the give it
the name of the barcode.

8. Finally, select the pool you want to assign the tape to.

Thanks!
