Re: [Bacula-users] LTO4 Tape End of Medium

2014-05-12 Thread Brian C. Huffman

Alan,

The cleaning alert came on a month or so ago. I cleaned it and it went
away.

Here's what I see when I do smartctl with a tape loaded. I don't see
anything that specifies the level or type of error correction:

   [root@backup01 log]# smartctl -a /dev/nst0

It can also be a dirty drive. Cleaning tapes can only do so much.

Is the cleaning light coming up? What level of error correction is
showing in the drive when you query it with smartctl and a tape loaded?

We have a persistent problem with a couple of bad HP tapes messing up
the drives so badly they have to be changed out.

[Bacula-users] LTO4 Tape End of Medium

2014-05-09 Thread Brian C. Huffman
All,

I am using Bacula 5.2.13 on CentOS 6.5 with a Dell PV124t using an LTO4
drive.

Lately I noticed that I was replacing tapes more and more often. When I
went to look at the VolBytes of the tapes, they don't appear to be
storing nearly as much data as they used to before an End of medium is
being triggered.

For example, I'm seeing an average of 515GB in the VolBytes field of
list volumes. Shouldn't I be getting at least 800GB for LTO4? I
recall that I used to see in the 1 TB range for tapes (depending on
compression).

I've cleaned the drive and this is happening on more than one tape.
There are no tape alerts being shown right now on the autoloader. Could
this be a hardware problem with the drive?

Thanks,
Brian

[Bacula-users] Verifying hfsplus support

2012-01-16 Thread Brian C. Huffman
All,

Is there any way to verify that the hfsplus is working correctly? I'm
running bacula 5.2.3 on a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 and have enabled hfsplus
support in the fileset, but there is no mention of the hfs+ support in
the completion email.

Is there a way to turn up verbosity that would display this?

Or perhaps someone can give me a suggestion on how to test (a backup /
restore of specific files that would require the hfsplus support) to
verify that it's working?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: [Bacula-users] bacula 5.0.1 installation errors

2010-03-05 Thread Brian C. Huffman
Rawhide / F13 source package includes the necessary patch to make 5.0.0
Compile on F12. Unfortunately there's a qmake requirement change that
breaks if I try to use the 5.0.1 tarball with the 5.0.0 SPEC file.

Perhaps old version of OpenSSL libs?

[Bacula-users] Windows XP encryption and Bacula

2010-01-08 Thread Brian C. Huffman
All,

I'm having trouble backing up a Windows XP machine that has a directory
(and everything below it) selected for encryption (properties on the
directory). I'm getting ERR=Access is denied for the files. It's
confusing, b/c it's still reading the full directory structure and
encryption shouldn't stop reading of the file, only decrypting would
be an issue.

The server is running 2.4.2 and the client is also running a 2.4 version
(may be higher minor rev).

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of situation or thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian
