Re: [Bacula-users] Is there a way...

2010-07-08 Thread gnowar

Yeah sorry about my english, I'm not so clear.

All these tapes are in the same pool, and the VOLUME retention is 18 days
(cause the first tape goes to the bank, the second becomes first after 20
days, and so on..).

I've read a lot about the retentions, I know that there is a thing about the
priority, something like :

VOLUME => JOBS => FILES.

I assume that I don't really understand the roles of the jobs and files
retention, any help is welcom on that one..

I don't do an "update slot" (you mean, manually ?). I thought I could set a
tape to the "used" status manually when it goes to the bank, but the point
is I don't want to do things manually.

Hope you get my point !

Thx !

[Bacula-users] Is there a way...

2010-07-08 Thread gnowar

Hey,

I was wondering if there is a way to tell bacula not to ask the oldest tape
it wrote on..

I mean, when a tape is pruned, it's status come to "Recycle". Is there a way
to put all the status tape to recycle (those who the retention is over, that
means they could be pruned), and not only the oldest one ?

Why.. ?

Because I'm using 20 tapes, but every twenty days (one tape per day), one
tape goes to the bank. I take a new tape and the cycle goes on during twenty
days etc..

The problème is, if I put a tape in the bank, 19 days later Bacula will ask
me THIS special tape, which is not available (cause in the bank..).

Is there a solution for this problem or it is inherent to the way Bacula
actually works ?

Thx by advance.

In the webacula interface, the state of the current task is set to : "is
waiting on Storage Tape"

Come on, the tape is labeled, mounted ! What's wrong !

I think I've spoken too early..

I don't have a mistake now, but nothing happens..

lan-backup01-dir shell command: run BeforeJob
"/opt/bacula/sysconf/mount_tape"
 BeforeJob: Connecting to Director lan-backup01:9101
 BeforeJob: 1000 OK: lan-backup01-dir Version: 5.0.1 (24 February 2010)
 BeforeJob: Enter a period to cancel a command.
 BeforeJob: mount storage=Tape
 BeforeJob: Automatically selected Catalog: MyCatalog
 BeforeJob: Using Catalog "MyCatalog"
 BeforeJob: 3001 OK mount requested. Device="LTO-2" (/dev/st0)
 BeforeJob: You have messages.
 Start Backup JobId 146, Job=BackupCvsOnTape.2010-05-27_10.24.19_41

I remember the old times when recycling was working, I saw in the log the
prune, recycle, relabel etc.

There is nothing here, the process is frozen..

Re: [Bacula-users] Re cycling is not working.

2010-05-26 Thread gnowar

Yeah thanks !

I had not understood the "maximum volume" use, you're saying I've to wait 20
days from the last tape written right ? (cause there is only 1 volume in the
pool ?)

I thought it was from the "last written" value of a specific tape I had to
care about to reuse the same one.

It's ok for the volume use duration, I understand that one ;)

Number of tapes will grow up every month so I've commented the "maximum
volume", restarted the backup and it looks good now.

Thanks John ! (again ! ;)

[Bacula-users] Re cycling not working.

2010-05-26 Thread gnowar

Hey,

I've a problem (I guess) cause bacula doesn't recycle my tape, even when
volume retention is over.

Here is the pool part of my bacula-dir.conf :

# Tape Pool definition
Pool {
  Name = TapePool
  Pool Type = Backup
  Recycle = yes # Bacula can automatically recycle
Volumes
  AutoPrune = yes # Prune expired volumes
  Volume Use Duration = 18 hours
  Volume Retention = 20 days # one year
  Maximum Volumes = 1 # Limit number of Volumes in Pool
  Maximum Volume Jobs = 2
  Label Format = "Day-"
}

Look at the tape day-20A (retention period and the last written thing)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/47940...@n08/4641302169/sizes/l/

Yeah, you're right.. I'm dumb.

Schedule {

#  Run = Full mon-fri at 23:05
  Run = Full w01, w05, w09, w13, w17, w21, w25, w29, w33, w37, w41, w45,
w49, w53 tue-fri at 23:05
  Run = Full w02, w03, w04, w06, w07, w08, w10, w11, w12, w14, w15, w16,
w18, w19, w20, w22, w23, w24, w26, w27, w28, w30, w31, w32, w34, w35, w36,
w38, w49, w40, w42, w43, w44, w46, w47, w48, w50, w51, w52 mon-fri at 23:05
}

Schedule {
  Name = "SchedTapeRetYear"
  Run = Full w01, w05, w09, w13, w17, w21, w25, w29, w33, w37, w41, w45,
w49, w53 Mon at 23:05
}

That sould work fine.

Thank you John.

I'll be back in 1 month to confirm the process ;)

Re: [Bacula-users] Fwd: Can someone help me to solve my logical problem... ?

2010-03-29 Thread gnowar

Well, about that..

Is there a way to use an exception for one or several days ?

Schedule {
  Name = "SchedTapeRetDay"
  Run = Full mon-fri at 23:05
}

Schedule {
  Name = "SchedTapeRetYear"
  Run = Full w01, w05, w09, w13, w17, w21, w25, w29, w33, w37, w41, w45,
w49, w53 Mon at 23:05
}

You see the problem. For the mondays who are parts of w01, w05 etc. bacula
will double the backup.

My only issue at this point is to stop the backup manually when this
configuration appears.

Any idea ?

I just need to create 2 pools / 2 jobs now, one for 365 days vol retention
(schedule for w01, w04 etc..) and the other one for 21 days vol retention.

Yeah that should work !

Thanks !

I upgraded bacula to the 5.0.1, it seems like I can reuse a tape when Vol
Retention is exceeded (even if jobs and files retention are not exceeded).

The volume status of the tape is set to Used when the Vol retention is
reached.

I just need to create 2 pools / 2 jobs now, one for 365 days vol retention
(schedule for w01, w04 etc..) and the other one for 21 days vol retention.

Am I right ?

Thx guys

I think it is. I understood that should works this way when I read the spec
but that doesn't work on my system..

>You need to modify your schedule how I explained in my first post.

As you saw, I don't speak english so well, I didn't find anything relevent
in the spec you gave me. I understand how to use one pool for the twentieth
day of a month, but not for every 20 days. It's different cause it's
completly random comared to the day, of a month (I don't know if I'm clear,
that should work like a "counter" ?)

I don't know if it's possible, and if it is, that's the key of my problem.

Hope you understand me.

Thx for your help

2010-03-11 Thread gnowar

I don't know if it's "normal", but I can't reuse a tape if files and jobs are
not pruned, even if the volume is. Files retention and Jobs retention ar
definited in the client section.

Plus, how can I say to bacula, "use this pool every twentieth backup" ?

[Bacula-users] Can someone help me to solve my logical problem... ?

2010-03-11 Thread gnowar

Hello,

I have a problem with my personnal cycle tape. Let's see how it works :

I have 20 tapes who are changed everyday. Everytime the 20s tape comes, I
put it in a box during 365 days.

It's like that :

1-
2-
3-
4-
5-
.
.
.
20--> In the box during 1 year

And so on...

1- (New tape)
2- (Ex 1st tape)
3- (Ex 2nd tape)
.
.
.
20--> In the box during 1 year

You see my problem ? I haven't the same retention times for the tapes who
are rewritted every 20 days, and those who are keeped during one year.

The problem is that I put the catalog name in the client... and as I know, I
can't have two same client right ?

I can't find any solution, excepted keeping files, jobs and volumes during
only 20 days and save the catalog in each tape, and rebuilt the catalog to
recover datas... But that's not easy to use..

Can someone has an idea ?

Thanks !

[Bacula-users] Still have problems with backups on tape...

Hello,

I've a problem with my tape backups.

When I start the job BackCvsOnTape, it does anything. I set the setdebug to
200 and the trace to "on" but I got no relevent information.

Here is my conf :

}

When I run a job, I just got a :

"lan-backup01-dir Start Backup JobId 125,
Job=BackupCvsOnTape.2010-03-08_10.05.17_04"

2 days later, the job is still running but nothing append.

I tried to purge everything (jobs, pools, volumes) several times, I've
labeled the volume and.. that's it.

I have the same job who backup on the disk and everything work fine.

Where should I look ?

Thx !

I didn't get that.. I'm ok now.

I did that cause I had errors with labelling..

>> The tape cycle is the following:
>> label the tape -> write to it (append) -> full or used (when use duration

>> (recycle)

Yeah I saw the schem but it really doesn't explain the "labelling" process.

>> you only label it once. the label remains also with recycling. so you
>> write the bacula label on the tape and you will know which tape to insert
>> if you need to restore something.

Actually the label is rewritten everytime but with the same name.
If Recycle is set to yes and all Jobs have been pruned, the volume status
will be set to Purged and the volume may then be reused when another volume
is needed. If the volume is reused, it is relabeled with the same Volume
Name, however all previous data will be lost.

I've made a test with the new label, it worked fine. But the volume name
hasn't a "speaking" name, it's just Day-0016, Day-0017..

Thx a lot btw, I couldn't find it by myself !

Actually I don't. I just founded cleaner this labelling cleaner...

I don't know, is it possible ? :)

>> you could use "Day-" as label Format. Bacula will then append a number to
it. or label them once manually.

Yes I understood that bacula use to append a number to the label volumes,
maybe this is my mistake cause I don't use it..

>> be sure to set Retention times on the pool (e.g. for your schedule maybe
18 days) and and a use duration (maybe 1 day as you change it on a daily
basis).

I know that my Retention times is wrong right now, but I'm just doing some
test so I purge volumes manually. But Thanks for the use duration, I will
set it up.

Well, again, assuming that the volume is purged from the catalog, the tape
is rewind and "woef-ed".. I still don't unterstand why bacula doesn't want
to relabel the volume.

I mean, the label format worked fine for the first backup but apparently
there is no way to relabel the tape.

Will it really fix the problem if I change the label format ?

Because I change tape everyday during 20 days.

It easyer to know wich tape I need if the volume name include the date and
time isn't it ?

Define the label format like I did does impact the recycle fonction of
bacula ?

What should be set in the label format ?

Re: [Bacula-users] Pool with AutoPrune=no

I guess you should set up a volume retention in your pool and set both
Recycle and Autoprune to yes.

When the value of your Volume retention is reached, it is automatically
purged in your catalog. Then your volume can be recycled.

If anyone can confirm ?

[Bacula-users] Problems with automatic labeling

Hello,

I've some problems with automatic labeling. Here is my conf :
