Re: [Bacula-users] Disk Backups - with offsite storage too

2006-09-25 Thread Vladimir Doisan
I am running such backup. You just have to have another server where to
send your bacula volumes for storage.
you have couple options here

1. Encrypt Bacula volume(s) with GnuPG and transfer over the network.
Just search Google for Bacula and GnuPG together. I wrote a guide on how
to do it a while back. It should be one of the first hits.

2. Use latest beta of 1.39.xx It has public key encryption, you can
transfer it over the network to your file server. It SHOULD work - but
then again - it is still in beta, I would not use it in production until
it is well tested.

3. Use SFTP client to transfer unencrypted bacula volume (may not be a
very good idea, depending on the off-site server security, but at least
the transfer itself will be protected.)

4. DO NOT SEND UNENCRYPTED PRIVATE DATA OFF-SITE. In my org it is
punishable by death (or suicide whichever comes first)

The problem may be in bandwidth. Transfer of 12Gb volume will take some
time. Restoration will also take some time since you will have to
transfer that 12 Gig volume back... Take into the account data growth
when calculating transfer times.

Good luck.

 Hi there,

I have a client with an aging DDS-3 tape drive that is currently way too
small, and I'd like to eliminate the use of tapes altogether.

The only problem is that this particular client requires offsite storage
of the backup data for at least a week after the *full* backup is done.

Is anyone currently using this type of setup?

 Hope someone can help.
