[Bacula-users] BackupCatalog not runs

2013-06-17 Thread Iban Cabrillo
Dear,
From time to time, the BackupCatalog job not runs. it show the state
created, not yet running, I can see any log to debug this issue. Other
jobs are working very smooth. I have four of this jobs waiting.

  The /etc/bacula/scripts/make_catalog_backup.pl MyCatalog runs fine.

Any idea about this??

Regards, Iban

[Bacula-users] Windows Client Version bacula-win32-5.2.10 question

2013-06-17 Thread George Kasica
I just upgraded my bacula installation here to 5.2.13 on two linux servers (one
is the host for bacula) with no issues from 5.0.3.

Te problem becomes te Windows binaries. I had been running the 5.0.3 versions
and when started as an exe rather than a service it would give a small icon
that if you right clicked you could get a Status update on running job progress
etc. The 5.2.10 (which seem to be the latest version) runs well here but for
the life of me I can't get the icon or ability to view that status to show up.
The windows systems are a Windows-7 and a Windows 2003 server.

Can anyone offer any assistance?

Thanks,
George

How to reset index of magazine?

Not sure what you mean by reset. Possibly you want to update slots in
bconsole. I assume that you are talking about bacula vchanger though.

Another question... how the best way to use 1 USB disk per day?

One option is to make each usb disk its own virtual magazine (uuid
mount with autofs) with a fixed # of preallocated volumes and its own
pool. For example external 1TB drive #1 is labeled Monday it has 10
~100GB volumes in the Monday pool.

Use the schedule resource to schedule jobs to write to the Monday pool
on Monday..

[Bacula-users] volume keeps getting purged and recycled

2013-06-17 Thread Seth Galitzer
I use disk storage and a couple months ago ran out of space. While I
was waiting to get additional storage, I reduced my retention period and
purged a few existing volumes so they could be reused and I could keep
running daily backups. Now that I have my additional storage in place,
I restored my original retention period. In my daily reports, I am
seeing one of the volumes I had manually purged continue to be recycled.
It's as if it is never flagged as being used, even when jobs complete
successfully using that volume. There are no other errors in the daily
reports.

What would be an appropriate course of action to resolve this? I don't
really trust any of my archives right now. Is there something I can
check in the database to see if the volume has been flagged
inappropriately? Should I just mark the volume as do not use? Is
there another option? Please let me know.

Thanks.
Seth

The FD error Network send error to SD ERR=Connection reset by peer means
that the FD unexpectedly lost contact (at the TCP level) with the SD while
 writing data to it.

I think the only possible causes are:

 1. The network broke between the FD and the SD.
 2. The SD died.
 3. The FD got a different error but reported it incorrectly (not very
 likely).
 4. I've seen linux drop packets (even ping) under load. In fact we have
two identical machines sitting next to each other, when backup kicks in
one of them -- but not the other -- goes from

 PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.71 ms
 to
 PING WARNING - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 133.52 ms

(This is on 2.6 series kernels.)

It still indicates a timing issue. A TTL expired because the server
cannot keep up, power saving mode turned off PHY ( which could be a
switch, rather than server or client machine), anything that causes a
packet drop. Also, another possibility is

5. The limit, recent, or some other iptables module is causing an
unexpected packet drop under load.

[Bacula-users] Too much files to save in catalog - MysQL performance tips.

2013-06-17 Thread Luis H. Forchesatto
Greetings.

I'd like to discuss my situation here where I have a job who backups only
200GB in files, but it has 2 million more files to save on catalog (MySQL).
When the file copy is complete the storage server, who also runs the
director, spend many hours to save the files in the catalog. This also
cause low mysqld performance at all.

Is there any tip to optimize the catalog operation or MySQL performance to
make the job less resource hungry?

The job runs once a week with no concurrent jobs. Director and storage runs
at the same computer but the client is another server, at the same network
who can transport up to 1Gb of data between the servers.

Any tips will be apretiated.

Re: [Bacula-users] LZO compression on FreeBSD

2013-06-17 Thread Doug Sampson
This will cause a problem presumably, if you do backups on an LZO client
 (such as I'm
considering on my SPARC T2 hosts, weedy CPU cores) then if necessary you
 can't restore these
backups to a GZIP only client.

It essentially limits the restore clients to those who also have LZO
 installed, yes?

Also, are you sure  LZO has to be on the dir and sd ? Seems to me its fd
 that's doing all the
 lzo stuff.

According to Laurent, all aspects of the Bacula system (director, storage,
client) must be enabled with LZO support. I haven't tested it without LZO
support in the director and storage devices. If you do, please post your
findings.

Yes, I would imagine that the client would need to support LZO prior to
restoring. Yes, it would mean one additional step in the restoration process
but not an insurmountable one for me.

[Bacula-users] why restore so slow after bscan?

2013-06-17 Thread James Harper
I needed to restore from some old disk media which had long since been purged
from the catalog. I bscan'd it back in and started a restore but it's taking
_ages_. Normally a restore from disk gets started in seconds and then is
basically limited by network/media speed. This restore seems to still be
seeking on the disk after 5 minutes (based on status stor). It's like it
doesn't know where the file is so it has to re-scan the entire media...

Is there something else I need to do in a bscan or does the bscan not import
all the required information so a seek is not possible?

Thanks

James
