Re: ibn-Khaldun
Thank you all - I do appreciate your answers. I must admit that ignorance did play a large part in my question and through the group it has been a great encouragement to find new worlds and new vocabulary! - Original Message - From: "Richard H. Sure you can be original, Michael, if you don't mind speaking a language no one else understands. But then, of course, you cease to communicate. -- You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Baha'i Studies is available through the following: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://list.jccc.net/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=bahai-st news://list.jccc.net/bahai-st http://www.escribe.com/religion/bahaist (public) http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (public)
Re: ibn-Khaldun
Michael, As far as I am concerned you are being neither ignorant nor arrogant. As near as I can understand; most of us must have an idea regarding the specific concerns of the people we seek to teach. If that individual should pose a question which concerns many people today, although the question is from a very old book; Baha'is should at least be aware that it is a question of some concern to those who know of the idea. To me it is sort of like learning the customs, traditions and language of people before entering their country to teach them something. One would want to let them know that one is somewhat acquainted with their finest accomplishments. Apparently many Muslims are quite proud of ibn Khaldun. There is much more to it; but that is all I can say now. Others can give you deeper and more perceptive answers. Re: ibn-Khaldun
I have a question which is bothering me and I'm afraid that it is through my ignorance that I ask it but here goes: Why do we hark back to a bygone era continually in order to discuss ideas. Can we be original or is it impossible because of so much that has gone before? Its possible that I am being arrogant as well as ignorant so please forgive me if it comes out like that but I would like an answer. [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: "Richard H.
