[ANN] BBEdit 11.6 (3917) pre-release

2016-05-13 Thread Rich Siegel

Good afternoon folks,

We're working on an update to BBEdit 11 which will add some new
features and address a few recently reported issues.

Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions. If
this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the public
release versions is your best course of action. Nobody will be
offended if you choose to do so; you're under no obligation to
install and use anything but a public release. :-)

Following is a summary of changes since the most recent
pre-release (whose own notes are here: ).

The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.

One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.

version 11.6 (3917) (2016-05-13)

Additions
-

*   Added [Toothpaste](https://github.com/imcatnoone/toothpaste) as
a factory-supplied color scheme. Toothpaste was designed by [Cat
Noone](https://www.twitter.com/imcatnoone/) and is included with
her kind permission.

*   Added credit for
[Toothpaste](https://github.com/imcatnoone/toothpaste) to the
About box.

Changes
---

* The Owner and Group popup menus in the file info panel have been
reorganized, to show visible users and groups (and their full
names) first, followed by system users and groups.

Fixes
-

* [NFR] Refined the fix for [322129] by rewriting it to use local
identity services, which eliminates the need to go out over the
network.

* [NFR] [322062] Fixed a regression in the Markdown tokenizer
which broke heading detection and function scanning.

* [NFR] [322256] Naked carriage returns in worksheet output are
now removed or converted to line breaks. (Some commands output
them as cursor control, under the assumption that they're
in a

terminal window.)

* [NFR] Fixed regression in which BBEdit-specific shell
environment variables were not set up when running a Unix text
filter or script.

* [322094] Fixed a bug in which the HTML function scanner would
generate function menu items with empty names for headings in
some situations; this in turn triggered a bug which would
cause a

crash when the Current Function display needed to display that
item in the navigation bar.

* [32] Made a fix so that high-frequency changes to
progress status from background threads no longer cause drawing
glitches in the progress panel.

* [38] Fixed a bug in the AppleScript internals in which
`whose` tests for certain value types would occasionally
fail for

reasons that were not immediately evident to the observer.

To take advantage of these features, I use an SSHFS connection tool (there
are a few, including MacFuse and ExpanDrive
). With that, you mount your remote server as
though it were a drive connected to your Mac. When you do that, I believe
you can use all BBEdit's disk-related features, including reloading.

Reload from disk should work in ftp/sftp mode also, and a shortcut would be appreciated

2016-05-13 Thread Gilles MISSLIN
Hello everybody,

i am new here, but not new about Bbedit i am using at least 3 hours per day.

When debugging, i would love to have a reload button, shortcut, that would
enable to reload the active document from disk (this function exists) and
also from ftp/sftp remote file.

This would be very usefull when we are currently debugging and we are
waiting for remote log files to be updated with some traces (eg: apache
logs, php error logs).

I do not know is somebody of barebones is reading this group, i hope so !

Thanks,

Gilles from France.
