[Ankur-core] Re: Bangla software for Linux ?

2006-05-09 Thread Hafis Ali
Hello, Do you know of any freeware/shareware etc. bangla text editors/word processors that work on linux like Redhat Linux ? You see, I got tired of unstable Winxp for insecurities and migrated for the first time to Linux but I am unable to use the bornosoft.com bangla word processor on Linux as that software was built for MS Windows OS and so am looking for one that will work on Linux. Any suggestions on how to get me in a position to write bangla documents and bangla websites without using the MS Windows OS ? Anything else I should know ?Thank You

If you are using GNOME desktop then try gedit and
for KDE please try kate. For office-suite please try
out the latest OpenOffice. These are quite good applications
for multipurpose Bengali text processing. BTW, these
come bundled with any standard Linux distro. So you
may not need to install them.

Its rather easy. Following documents will be of help to
you.

If you have further query, please feel free to post. Also, you
should mention the desktop, you are using.

Cheers

Re: [Ankur-core] Re: How to test a new Bengali font?

2006-05-09 Thread Shaheed
Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I've done some testing, and the basic stuff seems
to be working reasonably well. There is a bit more cosmetic tidying up to do,
but I'd like to submit what is there at present:

ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Raga-1.5.tgz

for your feedback, and consideration as a new contribution to the Free Bangla
Font project. Deepayan, are you the right contact for that?

FWIW, the design goals for this font are:

- To be visually compatible with the Times-like serif fonts, specifically
including the Bitstream Vera Serif.

- A clean, classical design

- Full compliance with the BanglaTemplate, including all glyphs.

Thanks, Shaheed
