Cathi and Ari and Bernd

2003-09-05 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
FYI, Cathi's emergency vet's phone number is 330-452-5116. The other
Vet Clinic with the same name is NOT the emergency clinic where Ari
is/was... Unfortunately, the Emergency Clinic keeps "emergency" hours,
so we can't call 'til after 6:00. I don't know if they let her check
out without paying the bill in full or not, but my plan is to call
tonight and find out if one can still contribute to it that way.

The phone number previously posted got me a private home answering
machine, so not sure WHAT that was...

Happy Birthday to me, I just ordered Bernd's book!

Pancreatitis?

2003-08-03 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
A friend of Marilyn Steele has a Saint Bernard diagnosed with
pancreatitis -- the dog is down to 100 lbs. which you can imagine is
pretty slim for a Saint... Their vet has them feeding the dog 6 cups
of Science Diet's W-D a day and NOTHING ELSE. The dog is hungry all
the time. So they're looking for a little guidance -- even, what could
they give the dog for treats? If anyone has some experience with this,
your ideas would be most appreciated at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks!

1, 2, 3... Triple-UD!!

2003-07-28 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
This past weekend we drove up to Fredericton, New Brunswick for 4
beautiful, pristine, wonderful obedience trials... The club has
run-throughs on Friday night so you can go into the weekend feeling as
prepared as possible... So many enthusiastic thanks to River Valley
Obedience Club for these trials... You can read about them at:

http://www.brunnet.net/rvoftc/aboutrvo.htm

Ptolli had been working well, so, for once, I felt pretty well prepared
for trying for the Canadian Utility Dog title -- for which, by the way,
you get their OTCH title -- two-for-one!!

On Saturday we had a couple of small bobbles but held it together and
qualified both times. On Sunday, the first time we tried Utility,
Ptolli had a small crisis of confidence on the down-signal... But the
next time, piece by piece, we worked through that class and... WE DID
IT!! Ptolli finished an entire Utility title in ONE weekend!!

AND... It was her THIRD one -- she has now earned her Utility Dog title
in the AKC, UKC and CKC... But she's not the first! I found this
website recently which lists lots of "Berner firsts":

http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Park/8746/bmdfirsts.html

But she might be the second... And if she's not, I'd be delighted to
hear about it!

It was also great to re-meet up with Berner people, Terry Wilkins and
Wendy Bennett, as well as many people who thought that Ptolli was just
wonderful... 'course she is! But she appreciates a little adoration as
much as the next Berner!! i.e. a LOT! :-)

FYI, the "Berners in Obedience" website is now being maintained at:

http://www.malcolmson.org/bmd/bmdobed/intro.html

The records are a bit out of date, but one thing at a time... I'm
fleshing things out, bit by bit... Look for some good stories here and
there, and NOT just about my dogs!

Berner cookie cutter

2003-02-28 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
http://www.kitchengifts.com/dogs.html

I ordered and received a copper BMD cookie cutter from this place...
Ignore the fact that the picture for the BMD is actually a borzoi or
some other dog -- the actual item IS a Berner.

re: baby or puppy

2002-12-08 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
Laura -- I especially appreciated your comments, sitting here nine
months pregnant, due on Thursday... wondering, was that twinge
something? Probably not...

We lost our older dog on September 20 and are left with the younger
one... We are a two-dog house. This one-dog thing is awful, especially
with this particular dog... And so, even though the baby is due any
time now... we're probably getting a puppy at the end of February...
but it will be our 4th Berner... I'm not TOO panicked about it... But I
*do* feel a LITTLE crazy!! :-)

A new UD

2002-11-27 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson
I read over on the OBED-COMP list that Marjie Cherry finished Dunbar's UD!! Well,
that was either a big "oh, by the way" or I missed it... But in case any one else
did...

Hey, Dunbar the herding wonder dog finished his Utility Dog title last weekend!!

He now has his UD, OA, OAJ, TD -- a VERY versatile dog!

Congratulations, Marjie!

anesthetic procedure

2002-10-13 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson

This thread about pre-anesthetic has been very interesting, but I
wonder if I've missed anything to deal with the coming-out-of-it
process -- when Ptolli had her OFA x-rays done, she had what the vet
termed a "storm" coming out of it and they had to restrain her for ten
minutes while she came out of it!! Scared the dickens out of me to
hear about it hours later!

Brag! UUD Ptolli!

2002-10-13 Thread Elizabeth Malcolmson

Our little girl has done it again -- and in beautifully fine style
yesterday! Not only did we get to come home a day early (I'm serving
up breakfast instead of just arriving at the show site!), but she won
Utility B with a 191 (11 points higher than last week!) -- and received
a lovely (and very appropriate -- it was raining hard!) Pedigree bath
towel for a prize! She is now:

UUD Ledgewood's Ptolemy, UDX, DD, Can. CDX & DD

I get dizzy just looking at all that -- she is three years, eight
months old!!
