Lilawasta Carts?

2003-08-26 Thread RM Johnson
Does anyone have any information on Lilawasta Carts made by a Terry
Schmidt in California? Two friends have ordered a cart from him (sent
him money orders as he doesn't do credit cards...) and now they can't
get anyone to call or email them back and it's been over 7 weeks and
still no cart and no contact. If anyone has any information on this
outfit, please email me privately. We would sure appreciate the help.

First Points!!

2003-07-01 Thread RM Johnson
My baby Timber took his first points in the conformation ring last
weekend! He took Reserve Winner's dog and Best Puppy on Saturday and
then on Sunday he took Winner's Dog for a 5-point major from the 9-12
month puppy class under judge Mr. Besoff from Abermain, Australia!
Timber took Best of Winner's too. We were so excited - Timber's very
first points and a 5-point major to boot. That's the way to start
things off!

Re: First Points!

2003-07-01 Thread RM Johnson
Someone tells me that I forgot to mention that Timber is always
owner-handled!! Maybe husband-handled might be the more correct
term? :-) My husband does all of our handling for us since I've had
two low back surgeries and can't run or bend over to stack worth a
darn. Luckily, my husband Randy and I both love our Berners and this
sport - so he lovingly handles our Berners for us. He's a sweetheart of
a husband for sure and awesome looking in a suit!! - but that would be
a whole other brag and probably not appropriate for this list! ;-)

OFA Litter Submission

2003-06-03 Thread RM Johnson
As a new breeder, I want to comment that getting a litter submission on
our first litter of 3 puppies has been a lot of work! I gave all of our
puppy owners a heads up last fall. I contacted each of them again in
December when the pups were 2 but since it was the holiday season, we
decided to give everyone a break and make it a March 1st deadline. I
got one set of x-rays on time. The other set took a few more weeks.
The final set took several emails and several long distance calls to
finally get them sent to us. By now it was the end of April. So much
for a March 1st deadline! The main thing I know is that we persevered
and got them all. Except that the late one didn't have the proper OFA
paperwork with the x-rays. So this morning I got a call from OFA saying
they needed this and that information. Of course the owners aren't
home, so I had to make several long distance calls, to get the
information needed. Voila! Finally, I have it all together and OFA is
happy. So am I.

I strongly believe that 100% data collection on test results (hips,
elbows, eyes, etc...) is imperative for the breed and for breeders to
succeed. It is a lot of work though and we only had 3 puppies in our
first litter! I'm already thinking ahead 18 months - then I'll have 6
sets of x-rays CERF's to collect. Maybe I should start now!! ;-)

Go kiss your breeder if they get 100% (or very nearly) data
collection!!! They are worth their weight in gold.

New CD!!

2003-05-27 Thread RM Johnson
Timber earned his third leg in Novice B obedience yesterday He had
gotten the first two legs on May 10th 11th. :-)))

He also took RWD Best Berner Puppy at his very first conformation show
- from the puppy 6-9 month class. This was at a show near my parent's
house in Del Mar, California. That was pretty exciting too! Timber is
one good looking puppy with a heart of gold and a wonderful
temperament. We are so proud of him!

Specialty Planning Booklet!

2003-01-06 Thread RM Johnson
I just received my Specialty Planning Booklet! It could not have come
at a better time - I just finished bathing and blow drying six 6-week
old Berner puppies and boy am I beat! It was their first bath. My 18
year old daughter Katie and I spent about 25 minutes per puppy. She
held and I washed, she held and I dried, and somehow I think I got the
better end of the deal! Anyhow, we have six squeaky clean, wonderfully
smelling puppies that are all sleeping soundly and now I'm going to go
put my feet up, read the planning booklet and dream about sunshine and
Long Beach, California! Come on April! :-

Dremel Story

2002-11-25 Thread RM Johnson
My husband would kill me if he knew I was going to share this..

He got a Dremel for a holiday gift a few years back. It was not the
average Dremel with the batteries but if you know about Tim The Taylor
Tool Man, from television lore, this Dremel was of that variety. It
was super powered! Bigger! Better!!

So my husband laid Terra upside down on our bed (she has never minded
her nails being trimmed) and he proceeded to try out the new super
powered Dremel. Well, I'm not sure what exactly happened, as it all
happened so fast - but somehow she wagged her tail and it got caught up
on the wildly spinning Dremel and it ripped out a huge chunk of her tail
fur, bound up the dremel and everything came to an abrupt halt. We sat
stunned. Especially Terra. ;-)

We have never used the Dremel again. And poor Terra still doesn't mind
her nails being trimmed. Wag, wag, wag..

Introducing new puppy Timber!

2002-11-02 Thread RM Johnson
I brought our new baby Timber home this week! He flew from Ottawa to
Vancouver where I picked him up and then we slowly drove down to visit
friends in Everett, Washington for the day. These friends are retired
and do not have pets but they do have two Grand-Berners (owned by their
daughter) and they loved having Timber spend the day and of course they
fell in love with him instantly! Timber flew home to Alaska in a Sherpa
Bag on the seat beside me and he didn't make so much as a peep for the
entire 3 hour flight. (If you haven't tried a sherpa bag for traveling
with a puppy, I highly recommend it!) I opened the zipper at the top of
the bag and Timber rested his head on my arm the whole way. :-)

Timber has an out going and super friendly personality! I know I'm
bragging here but he has an absolutely incredible temperament! He went
through the Seattle Airport like he's done it every day of his life.
When people (of all shapes sizes and some in Halloween costumes) came
up to him, he always offered them kisses tail wags. He was unfazed by
rental car returns, luggage carts, elevators, large sliding glass doors,
escalators, long check-in lines, and security - where he was surrounded
and adored by at least 10 security personnel.

Since coming home, he has been a true working dog - helping me to rake
our big backyard yesterday. He played in the leaves and chased the rake
for me!

I would like to thank his breeder, Rose Tierney, for allowing me the
privilege of having one of her beautiful and precious babies. I am the
proudest new mom ever!
