Hi Pauline,

Your point re. crates being bolted to the vehicle frame is excellent. I
hadn't thought about this till now. Would this be similar to the bolting
down of a baby seat?

Thanks, Sharon Greenberg (St. Louis, MO)

Re: Airline travel?

2003-02-23 Thread Sharon Greenberg
Hi Nicole,

Some breeders will not ship pups. The breeder I chose wouldn't but I wanted
to meet her & see her animals (pups were 4 weeks old) in person which she
appreciated. So to make a long story short, I went to meet her, saw the pups
& the bitch, liked what I saw, liked the breeder, she liked me, & the rest
is history. I flew back to pick up the pup (then 8 weeks old & 14 lbs) &
brought her home in a Sherpa bag on American Airlines. It was an adventure!
She slept most of the way home (2 hr. flight) on the vacant seat next to me.
What a cutie! She is now 4 months old (45 lbs) & the light of my life! My
first Berner's breeder also required a personal interview.

I feel it is very important to meet the breeder face-to-face, see the pups &
bitch, (sire, too if possible) & then make an educated decision whether this
is a 'good fit.' All the breeders with whom I spoke also wanted to meet me
in person as well as complete a lengthy questionnaire regarding my
qualifications as a Berner owner. Most breeders are very selective & if
they're not, I would look elsewhere.

Have you already found a breeder willing to sell you a pup or are you still
looking? Your relationship with the breeder will hopefully be a long-lasting
one for the life of your Berner & it's really nice to have a personal
relationship with her/him rather than just via telephone or email.

Audrey,

I'm certain it's okay for her to eat those tags as Schoenli IS the consumer!

Re: Rimadyl

2003-01-02 Thread Sharon Greenberg
Hi Mark,

We, too, had a positive experience with lameness using Rimadyl for my
elderly arthritic Samoyed; however, she did die from a type of spontaneous
anemia which may or may not have been related to this drug. This was prior
to owning my first Berner. Now I am hooked on this breed & having lost
Dakota (5) in October from histio, I happily now have a new Berner pup who
is the light of my life at the moment, appropriately named Luna, from
Mary-Ann Bowman in Utah whom I have found to be incredibly knowledgeable &
supportive : ).

Congratulations on your (Berner?) litter of 6. I'm sure they are very cute!
Please post some pictures.

Healthy & Happy New Year to All,

Sharon Greenberg & Luna (St. Louis, MO)

Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for your response to my question re. flying pups. I am planning to
take the 8 week old pup in a Sherpa bag under my seat, & I'm not going in
the cargo hold pressurized or not! : )
Mary-Ann & I have already made the necessary arrangements.

Does anyone have knowledge of what, if any, health clearances are needed to
fly with an 8 week old puppy from one state (Utah) into another (Missouri)?

Histio Roll Call & Berners & Horses

2002-11-25 Thread Sharon Greenberg
We wished to celebrate seniors but sadly have to add:
Dakota, 9/5/97-10/18/02 loved & adored by Sharon & Alan Greenberg (looking
for a new Berner pup)

The Berner/horse thread is very interesting & not surprising to me as I've
found over the years that horse & dog owners have much in common. Since
1977, I've had 3 horses: "Esquire" - foxhunted (never saw a fox but
wonderful fun, loved seeing the hounds work, & the beautiful countryside),
"Harry" - eventing (TB, never raced), & presently "Hershey Bar" whom I
bought at 3 & is now 28 yrs (TB/ Quarter X) - trail riding. I have hung up
my (hunt seat) saddle & boots but will always have many happy memories.

Pat, we love sushi but have never had horse mackerel. Tell me more!
