Re: sweet rescue Berner mix - happy ending!
forwarded in plain text for Vilma (and I'll also say that I still think it's just as possible that Buzz is a purebred as it is that he's a mix!): Just wanted to thank everyone who helped me w/ the sweet little Berner mix, Buzz, who we rescued in the nick of time from the Ohio shelter. Buzz has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, evaluated and placed w/ a wonderful home, actually a friend of our own Joye Neff. I also had 3 other families also come out to visit who wanted him and several others interested who I had to turn away. I only had him 2 weeks, but was really quite fond him. He is a great dog (so nice to foster a normal dog for a change!) and is in a wonderful loving home. (Oh, and if anyone is interested in a really CUTE little 3 yr old 10 lb female Jack Russell Terrier, my husband rescued Daisy from an abuse situation recently.) Vilma Briggs (Kistner) Mt. sweet rescue Berner mix
We just couldnt leave this sweet dog in that filthy, overcrowded shelter yesterday! After hearing word from WI that there was a Berner or Berner mix in an OH shelter and seeing the pictures, my husband and I had to investigate in person. There is controversy in our club's small rescue committe (N. Coast BMD Club of OH - me and 2 others) about what the involvement of the club w/ Berner mixes should be, we have placed them before - but here he is! Just lying at my feet as I type this. I have 10 dogs in my household now, including 2 rescue Berners, so I really cannot foster him for long. He wouldnt get the attention he deserves. We gave him a bath twice last night and blew him dry (poor little thing - God did he ever stink!!) and groomed him and cut out the mats. He cooperated 100% w/ this. Then he met all our other dogs, did great w/ all that. Got along perfectly w/ all of them, including 2 other intact males, 6 neutered males and our 2 young intact females...Berners, Goldens, Labs, a Corgi and a Border Collie. Toenail trimming is later tonite. He had been at the shelter about 4 weeks and not one person had asked to look at him. Was found as a stray. The shelter was incredibly overcrowded and filthy. We just couldnt leave him there. Initial Assessment: Temperment: A happy dog -- very friendly!! both to people and dogs, energetic and fun loving but settles fairly quickly when nothing going on, submissive, very slightly timid but appropriately so for what he just came from and just walked into, quite playful, very sweet, a bit wiggly :-) Physical: really very cute!! About a one year old intact (but not for long!) male. I dont know if he is a Berner but he is dressed as one even down to the white tip on his tail, only exceptions: white goes 1/3 up front legs and no white on muzzle, probably a Berner mix, head structure and coat and coloring pretty correct...just in miniature. He is small (20 inches and probably 50 lbs.) The area where he was found as a stray has a large Amish and Mennonnite community well known as puppy mill producers so I am guessing he is the product of a locally placed Berner and their neighbor's small dog. :-( This dog would be a great family pet. Perhaps a little too much engergy for toddlers, but what a fun dog. He is lying at my feet now w/ his head down on his paws, leaning against my legs. If anyone is interesting in adopting or at least fostering this great fellow, please let me know. (Needs a nameideas??) Vilma Briggs (Kistner) Mt. Gilead, OH U-UD Mocha Java Slurp, UDX, HIC, TT Ch. Appenzeller-mix in NYC requires rehoming
A family in New York City seeks to place their three years old, spayed female, likely Appenzeller-mix into a new home. When they adopted Lucy, they lived in Georgia. They are very fond of her but feel an environment which provides the stimulation and opportunities for activity suitable for an Appenzeller would be better for Lucy. Appenzellers are very intense and reactive dogs who like to herd. Like Berners, they are devoted and sensitive dogs. They also can pull a cart and do quite well in agility. They are much smaller than Bernese, quite hardy, short coated, and have tails which curl over their backs. An adult weighs about fifty-sixty pounds. To learn just about everything you ever wanted to know about the breed, contact me and I shall put you directly in touch with the people in America with expertise regarding the breed. To offer Lucy a home, contact me and I shall put you in touch with her owner. Thank you for your attention to this matter and my gratitude to Pat Long for allowing me to post this to the list. Berner Mix at a Shelter
http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2pet=1548503 This big boy is described as a collie/berner mix, but he sure looks like a Berner from the photo. He's at a shelter in the NJ shore area. I know that Breed Rescue doesn't work with mixes, they have more than enough on their hands in our area with the purebreds. But I thought I would just let people on the List know about this boy just in case... Pat Long ( Luther) Berwyn PA
Re: Berner Mix at a Shelter
Pat, Margaret and list, I called the shelter, and he has found a home with one of the shelter volunteers. They will continue to employ him in therapy work, and he has a very loving home to go to. They agree he appears to be mostly berner, though his legs are collie-like They have no pedigree or papers on him. Alls well that ends well. Berner/Cane Corso Mix!
Hi Everyone- It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this post tonight. My friend called me tonight to inform me that her neighbor has a Bernese Mtn Dog/Cane Corso mix puppy... This litter was also advertised in the Philadelphia Inquirer last weekend...$250. Apparently that is how her neighbor found out about the pups in the first place. Super Bowl weekend my husband I attended a party in a neighborhood near us...it was my husband's co-worker's party. THEY are also getting one of these puppies! I am just so annoyed... And speachless...which is rare if you know me personally... Anyway, just thought I'd share my sorrow with you all. Jennie Hoffnagle Glenmoore, PA
available Berner Newf mix
I am aware of a one year old male Berner Newf mix where a new home is needed quickly. I know very little at this point but plan to make contact and get more facts ASAP. I am told that he is Newf sized and Berner colored. I am also told he is very full of himself. He lives with a female Golden who is about to whelp any second and the current owner wants him to have a new home soon as he is just too rambunctious and she is unable to handle him. He is located near me in the VT/NH border area. Anyone interested please contact me via email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] From the land of a very frigid wind chill approaching minus 40. mix
The Lone Star BMDC has come into possesion of a mix breed (possible Berner) dog. This boy was identified as a purebred dog by a Berner owner but he is not a purebred dog. Currently this dog has been neutered, and given rabies. He is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and children but has not been given any obedience training and has not been house trained. He is about 2 yrs old and seems very energetic. He is a bit apprehensive in new situations but with gentle assurance does come around. Weighs about 80 pounds. This dog is in need of a home as the Lone Star members can not keep this dog and most of those we have been in contact with want a purebred dog. Local rescue groups are full and unable to take him. If you are interested or know someone who is please contact me. I will be happy to send pictures to those interested. Susan Ablon
RE: Canfield Ohio Berner mix.....
I'm impressed. Got emails from the local club Rescue (who really are on top of things) and also from the group,Angels for Animals who is helping the little 5 month old female Berner mix. I guess people are just lining up to help her and welcome her into a loving home. It really makes me feel good to know that people really are watching out and ready to step in and help. Bernese pure/mix female in Canfield Ohio needs a home
Anyone involved with Berner Rescue near Canfield Ohio? Please check out this website http://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2pet=1263082adTarget=468doggeneral SessionID=3df6ad992f46a434-app1display=preview=1row=25 There's a 5 month old female bernese that looks pure to me...and she sure looks like she needs some help. She's not at a pound so it's not an urgent call but seems like Berner Rescue should check this out. I had gotten on www.petfinder.org and just out of curiousity looked to see if there were any of ours in need of help. This is my first posting on Berner L so I hope I'm doing it right.
