[Bes-admins] Playbook 2.0

2012-03-02 Thread Moller, Doreen
Has anyone tested this in their Exchange Activesync environment? How was your
experience? Did it properly interpret Exchange Activesync policies with regard
to security. I would love everyone's feedback. thanks

Hi Doreen,

We don't use EAS policies here, but if you want I can create a policy and set
it on my mailbox and then configure my PB2.0 to sync with it and let you know
the results? If so, let me know which policy items you're interested in.

Re: [Bes-admins] Playbook 2.0

2012-03-02 Thread Moller, Doreen
Hi Richard, That would be great. I am mainly interested in remote wipe
capability and whether it supports / requires a password before you can sync
contacts, calendars, email. We use 8 character complex password and when we try
to sync a device via activsync is should ask for a password before allowing the
device to sync. I didn't see this happen when I tried to sync. We are an
Exchange 2007 environment. What version of Exchange are you running?

The answer given today is no. Fusion consists of three products as I
understand it. BES/BAS, Blackberry Device Manager (Playbook and BB OS
10), and Universal Device Server (Android iOS) fused together with a
single management interface resembling BAS. Forgive me if I make minor
mistakes in the names, but that's basically what they are called. Each
has different, non-transferrable CALs. That is, they can be recycled as
currently, but not moved from one type to another.

No worries on the names Art, I won't hold you to them :-)

I kind of figured the CALs wouldn't be transferrable, but anything's possible,
right?

Thanks for the explanation on the components. I haven't been paying much
attention as of late to it, but it sounds like it's far enough along I should
start looking at it again.

Attended a dog and pony show, today. Looks promising. Licensing compares
favorably with other MDM solutions. Server is free. Only pay for the
CALs, which work and are priced comparably with BES CALs.

As an aside, BlackBerry fusion demo currently supports Playbook
management, and iOS/Android device support is expected within a month or
so. I'm excited about it.

Has anyone tested this in their Exchange Activesync environment? How was
your experience? Did it properly interpret Exchange Activesync policies
with regard to security. I would love everyone's feedback. thanks

Re: [Bes-admins] Playbook 2.0

2012-03-02 Thread Art Alexion
We had a big rollout of AD/Exchange accounts over the past 3 or 4 months.
With that a lot of phone activations with personally owned and branch
owned devices. Our BBs went from about 60 to about 75 or 80. Our
Android, iPhone and corresponding tablets went from 0 to about 220. In
fact, we had branch users who were using BESX and switched to Android just
to avoid paying the BES data plan. The CALs were coming out of our budget.

We are using hosted MDM, and paying per device per month. Buying CALs for
Fusion is looking like a very attractive alternative right now.

I kind of figured the CALs wouldn't be transferrable, but anything's
possible, right?

Thanks for the explanation on the components. I haven't been paying much
attention as of late to it, but it sounds like it's far enough along I
should start looking at it again.

2012-03-02 Thread Darhl Thomason
That's good to know. We're getting ready to open up for iDevices and are
looking at MDM. We're not planning on allowing any personally owned devices,
at least not yet...but we all know how things change, right?
