Many of you have been members of the bind-users mailing list for many years,
and have both given and received advice to/from other participants. So you
understand what a helpful and caring community it can be.

We appreciate all of you who generously share your expertise here, and we want
to protect the list for everyone. We have taken the difficult decision to ban
one participant who has repeatedly belittled or scorned others who, in his
judgement, lacked expertise or understanding. Even though he often gave good
technical advice, his harsh tone was making the environment feel hostile for
others.

If a few posters are unpleasant to users who are confused, misinformed, or
inexpert, it can discourage many others reading the list from participating.
At this time we want to remind everyone to please:

   - Be friendly and patient.
   - Be welcoming.
   - Be considerate.
   - Be respectful.
   - Choose your words carefully. Remember that many list subscribers are not
native English-speakers.
   - Understand that posters are looking for advice and help, not criticism.
Excessive criticism merely discourages people from asking for help.

We realize it can be difficult to be patient when you think the poster is
wasting your time, is lazy, or is obscuring their data unnecessarily, but it is
always an option to not reply if you cannot maintain a helpful attitude.
Remember that every post has many other readers and that you are not required
to answer.

We would like to remind all participants on this list that this community has a
code of conduct.
The code of conduct is at
https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-projects/bind9/-/blob/main/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md
<https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-projects/bind9/-/blob/main/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md>, and
it is linked in the description of the bind-users mailing list
(https://lists.isc.org/mailman/listinfo/bind-users
<https://lists.isc.org/mailman/listinfo/bind-users>).

If you see a post on this list that you think is in violation of the code of
conduct, please alert one of the moderators by emailing cond...@isc.org. We do
periodically moderate discussions that get overheated, and repeated violators
will be banned permanently.

- The moderators (Ondrej Sury, Chuck Stearns, Vicky Risk)
