  Trying a build with system llvm : strangely, the build is no quicker,
  despite not having to compile the local llvm, but the log is a *lot*
  shorter as expected.

  Interestingly, Arch seem to have moved away from using system llvm and are
  still using python2 to build rust. For fedora I can no longer find out how
  they build it (latest binaries for rawhide seem to have been updated
  recently, the previous links to thir srpm are dead and they have several
  pages of cgit matches for rust.

Did you notice that Arch doesn't run the tests for rust? They do run
the tests on other packages.

On this build they are using system llvm

 Changes from 5.4.2 to 5.5

 The effect of the NO_INTERACTIVE_COMMENTS option extends into $(...) and
 `...` command substitutions when used on the command line.  Previously,
 comments were always recognized within command substitutions unless the
 comment character "#" was disabled via reset of $histchars.

 An alternative assignment syntax for indicating indices for arrays
 and keys for associative arrays:
 {{{
 typeset -a array=([1]=first [2]=second)
 typeset -A assoc=([key1]=val1 [key2]=val2)
 }}}
 is allowed for compatibility with other shells.  In the case of normal
 arrays the new syntax can be mixed with the old.

 ** Improvements

   time now reports percent CPU usage for programs lasting less then 1
 second.
   previously, time would report '??%' if programs lasted less than 1
 second.
   (adopted from Fedora).

 ** Changes in behaviour

   "time -p" no longers adds the "Command exited with non-zero status"
 message.
   This is a backward-incompatible change for better POSIX compliance.
   Many downstream distributions previously patched 'time' to behave this
 way
   (Debian added '-q', Fedora patched '-p').

 After some (lponger than anticipated) search, I came to the conclusion
 that the observed behavior has nothing to do with itstools. It is rather
 related to the way gettext/msgfmt makes translations for xml files. The
 detailed mechanism is described at
 https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_node/Preparing-ITS-
 Rules.html#Preparing-ITS-Rules. In our case, There is no locating rule for
 metainfo.xml, so the program says it does not find the ITS rules for
 metainfo.xml... It seems those metatinfo rules are provided by appstream
 or appstream-glib (those are different pacakges). So I'll try installing
 appstream-glib and see what happens.
