I can confirm that this release works with sqlite3-odbc, mysql-odbc and
freetds-odbc, so this should be fine.

I'd wait with this, it has an issue with at least SQLite ODBC Driver,
and there's now a 2.3.9pre out for it. Will inform when this is resolved.

  2020-01-27 (3.31.1)

  - Revert the data layout for an internal-use-only SQLite data structure.
Applications that use SQLite should never reference internal SQLite data
structures, but some do anyhow, and a change to one such data structure
  in
3.30.0 broke a popular and widely-deployed application. Reverting that
change in SQLite, at least temporarily, gives developers of misbehaving
applications time to fix their code.

So, that's why my firefox crashed after the upgrade...

  Almost a week ago I suggested moving to the -esr version of firefox.

  Details in [http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/pipermail/blfs-
  dev/2019-September/036880.html]

  This will pick up new security fixes in the 68 series, whilst ignoring
  churn (e.g. firefox-69.0.2 which appears at this point to only affect 69,
  and the move to a newer rust for firefox-70.

  Whether or not we do this, the next expected releases (68.2.0, 70.0) will
  require either a new profile, OR invoking firefox for the first time after
  the change with 'MOZ_ALLOW_DOWNGRADE=1 firefox' (optionally add -P if you
  already have multiple profiles and don't want to create another.

  So far, nobody has commented on the list so I intend to act on this when
  the next security release arrives. Unless in the meantime someone can
  point out what is likely to be lost by staying behind the curve in BLFS.

I so far managed to keep up with firefox releases, but I agree that
going for esr releases is the reaŝonable decision, as they plan to
release even more often.

No, I haven't, my systems largely are lfs 8.2, with most of blfs at
current svn.

Do you want me to start on that, or is this on hold?

Comment (by bdubbs):

  An initial look shows a few packages that we may be able to drop: gtk-
  xfce-engine, libwnck-2.30.7 (still used by lxpanel), xfce4-xkb-plugin.

  There may be some additional xfce apps we may want to add:
  xfce4-screensaver and xfce4-screenshooter

I have already used xfce4-screenshooter in 4.12, it is very useful and
does its job without hassle.Just noticed it can even be added to the
panel with a pre-defined action out of full-screen, active-window or
select-region.

In short, I would certainly advocate its inclusion, as I regard the
ability to do screenshots quite integral to a desktop environment.

  There is a 'fat' tarball but we probably don't want to use it. It
  includes:
  {{{
  $ tar -tf xfce-4.14.tar.bz2
  src/
  src/xfce4-settings-4.14.0.tar.bz2
  src/xfce4-appfinder-4.14.0.tar.bz2
  src/xfwm4-4.14.0.tar.bz2

  src/xfconf-4.14.1.tar.bz2
  src/garcon-0.6.4.tar.bz2
  src/xfce4-panel-4.14.0.tar.bz2

I wanted to take this ticket, but I saw that it got "Milestone: 8.4".
Does that mean this should wait until 8.3 is out? Judging from the
changelog, this release only affects BSP platforms anyway.

Changes (by timtas):

  * status:  new => closed
  * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

  As I don't know yet where to put patches, I reference the previous
patch
  from 5.48. It applies cleanly on 5.49, so it just has to be copied
with

  the new name.

There is an SVN repository for patches:
svn+ssh://svn.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/trunk. If the patch applies
cleanly, you just need a symlink to the version which is not a symlink...
Don't forget to svn add your new file. As soon as you commit, the
patch is
available at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/downloads/. It
takes some

more time and some automation (or Bruce's action, I don't know :) for the
patch to appear in http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/blfs/svn/

The nightly build script repopulates patches/blfs/svn/.

Ok, I added the patch half an hour ago and changed the bluez page
accordingly. Will wait with the checkin of the page until the nightly
build script will have done its work.
