[blfs-dev] A note on openssl changes

2016-03-14 Thread Bruce Dubbs
The latest version of openssl disables SSLv2 by default. This will cause
other packages to break.

I was upgrading wireshark and it failed because a Qt5 library required
SSLv2. Fortunately a simple rebuild of Qt5 fixed the problem.

Just a heads up that other packages that use openssl may need to be
rebuilt also.

A quick search of BLFS to find where openssl is referenced shows 71 packages.

I would like to cut down the number of packages in BLFS. The maintenance

it comes to terminals, we have:

xterm

xfce4-terminal
lxterminal
qterminal
konsole4
konsole5

I propose that we remove konsole4 and gnome-terminal.

I have no objection to removing either of these.

But you missed one - rxvt-unicode aka urxvt :

Yes, I missed that. I suspect you would prefer not to remove that.

actually, I would be happy if we removed xterm (and luit) because

Yes, it has 'baggage' (& ~poor defaults), but I'd suggest keeping xterm -
not least as an ~expected part of basic/core x environment; cf twm .

I agree that xterm is not that useful because of the difficult
configuration, but it is classic and, like twm and xclock, allows testing
of Xorg early. None of these is particularly hard to to /update/install/test.

I have no right t ask anything, but would like gnome-terminal to remain
in the book.

I don't know if this is related to new grep, but there are many

about new 50 references to 'terminal-regex' plus 'terminal_regex' in
 the
 new code.
