[Blind-Computing] Malwarebytes VS SuperAnti Spyware Info

2011-08-18 Thread Mike Barbara in Arcadia
Hi All, Below is some information I found in my notes regarding SAS its
ability to find malware.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Ad-Aware 2007 Scripts

I am installing and using the free Super Anti-Spyware program on many of my
clients computers. It will also scan for tracking cookies like Ad-Aware
does if you set it to. To have the program scan for tracking cookies in
addition to all other types of malware you can do the following once it is
installed:

1. Double-click or press enter on the Super anti-Spyware installed icon on
the desktop.
2. Use the tab key to move to the preferences button and press enter.
3. The previous step opens the control center for the program. You might
not be able to use the tab key to move between the controls. However, if
you use Alt-Tab to move back to the parent dialog box that was opened,
(which should be called Super AntiSpyware Free Edition, and close that
dialog box by using Alt-F4, then you will be able to tab between the
controls of the Super AntiSpyware Control Center once you use Alt-Tab to
move back to it.
 4. Once you have moved back to the Super AntiSpyware control center,
use the tab or shift-tab keystroke to move to the page tabs of the dialog
box.
5. Once on the page tabs use the right arrow key to move to the scanning
control tab.
6. use the tab key to move to the scan for tracking cookies checkbox and
use spacebar to check or uncheck the choice. You can then use tab key to
move to the close button and press enter.
7. There are also settings in the General and Startup: page tab of the
Super Anti-Spyware control center that you might want to check such as
starting the program with Windows, having it run in the system tray, etc.
If it runs in the system tray and you open it from there with the right
mouse button simulation then you can use the tab key in the control center
without closing any other dialog first.

The latest version of AVAST has anti-spyware detection and removal as part
of the program including anti-rootkit detection and of course antivirus
protection. It is very easy to use with JAWS when selected from the system
tray and using the various levels of menus.

Super Anti-Spyware takes a little longer to scan than Ad-Aware, but it
removes everything Ad-Aware does plus many other types of malware.
Take care.

Hope this helps, somewhat anyways. Take care.

No, you can still update the database definitions manually. Unchecking this
box just turns off the reminder that a program update is available.

Hi Gerald,

Thank you very much for reminding me of the update tab in SAS preferences,
I

totally brainfarted on that! I don't have version 4.56 available to me
right now so, if this is turned off, does this stop SAS from updating or,
just stop showing the reminder notice? Thanks again, take care.

In SAS 4.5.6, you can turn off this reminder on the Updates tab in the
Preferences dialog by unchecking the box labeled check for program
updates
 when the application starts.

  Hi Margaret,

There is 1 thing to be aware of, that is if you run the SAS 4.56
  version,
you will be constantly be told that there are updates available,
asked

  if
you would like to update now! I found that to be such a nuisance, that
I
updated to the 5.0 version. Take care.

I'm so happy to hear that other JAWS users are having trouble with
the
  new
Pro Super Anti-Spyware! It installed the new version several days ago
  when
I checked for updates after it hadn't done the usual daily scan for a
  couple
days. I was finally able to schedule a daily scan for my preferred
time,
but I couldn't tell it to let me do manual complete scans when I
wanted

  and
not to do them automatically. The closest I could come was to let it
do
   them one day a week.

Does anyone know if with version 5 (Pro) for the item to quarantine
and
remove items does it remove them or put them in the quarantine vault
so

  one
can double check them before removing them?

I was able to get the new Pro version to work with JAWS 10, but it
was
  a
   bit easier with 12.

If you use the link for the old interface, will SAS still update
new

   definitions etc.?

 Thanks,

 Margaret

 Hi David,

The SAS 5.0 version is somewhat accessible, as we have both found
out,
  but
only if you are running Jaws11 or 12. It is not accessible with any
   earlier
versions. Also, we have both learned that about the only part that
is
accessible is configuring scanning programming schedules, but even
  doing
these tasks' takes a lot of work using both the Jaws PC cursors
  left,
 right, up, down arrowing.
Hopefully they will make the rest of the Interface accessible
   as well.

   Take care.

Have never done anything with goldwave, but, for example, GOMPlayer has a voice
filtering effect you can apply to either emphasise or remove the voice, and
while not perfect, and seeing as how you'd still need to record the sound being
rendered, it's a nice enough media player, since all functionality can be
explored through it's context menu from within interface:

Hi All,

This accessible Google website was found on another list. It supposed to be
designed for mobile devices, but is supposed to work great for those who
don't like any clutter popping up when they are searching the web.

Hope this helps. Take care.

No, you can still update the database definitions manually. Unchecking
this
box just turns off the reminder that a program update is available.

   Hi Gerald,

Thank you very much for reminding me of the update tab in SAS
preferences,
   I
totally brainfarted on that! I don't have version 4.56 available to me
right now so, if this is turned off, does this stop SAS from updating
or,
just stop showing the reminder notice? Thanks again, take care.

In SAS 4.5.6, you can turn off this reminder on the Updates tab in the
Preferences dialog by unchecking the box labeled check for program
   updates
when the application starts.

 Hi Margaret,

There is 1 thing to be aware of, that is if you run the SAS 4.56
 version,
you will be constantly be told that there are updates available,
   asked
 if
you would like to update now! I found that to be such a nuisance,
that
   I
updated to the 5.0 version. Take care.

  Hi Margaret,

This is the reply I received today about running SAS 4.56 if its
definitions updates will stay up to date.

  Hi,

If you use the link for the old Pro 4.56 interface, will SAS still

  SUPERAntiSpyware.com Replied:

  Hi there,

Yes that is true. Definition updates are independent of product
   updates.
 You
can stay completely up-to-date with definitions while still using
   version
  4.56.

I'm so happy to hear that other JAWS users are having trouble with
   the
 new
Pro Super Anti-Spyware! It installed the new version several days
ago
 when
I checked for updates after it hadn't done the usual daily scan for
a
 couple
days. I was finally able to schedule a daily scan for my preferred
   time,
but I couldn't tell it to let me do manual complete scans when I
   wanted
 and
not to do them automatically. The closest I could come was to let
it
   do
  them one day a week.

Does anyone know if with version 5 (Pro) for the item to
quarantine
   and
remove items does it remove them or put them in the quarantine vault
   so
 one
can double check them before removing them?

I was able to get the new Pro version to work with JAWS 10, but it
   was
 a
  bit easier with 12.

If you use the link for the old interface, will SAS still update
   new
  definitions etc.?

Thanks,

Margaret

If you are using the regular fb page, press b until you hear account button
menu, press space bar, then on the next window that pops up, press b to jump
to the log out button and press space bar and you are done.
On the mobile facebook site, list your links and press l until you hear log
out and press enter or spacebar and you are done.
I have confirmed this method to have worked, because I just tried it before
I sent this message.
Take care.
