No, you couldn't use teflon tape, or not if you wanted the light to work
any more, teflon is a very good insulator.

Keith,
I use good old WD40 for this all the time, perhaps electronics type
contact cleaner and lubricant as findable at Radio Shlock might be better.

Just the lightest spray on the threads of the bulb, don't flood it.

how easily I screw the bulbs in, half the time I have to break the bulb to
 get it out.
This is partially the design of the globes that the bulb goes in. You can't
get your fingers around the bulb to grasp it firmly, and of course you can't
remove the open end globe while the light is in tact.
Is there a lubricant that can be used in a light socket to make the
 unscrewing of the bulbs easier?

Can one lubricate a light socket?

I use a spray can of tri-flow I purchased at an electrical supply house.
It has a cleaner solvent propellant base that contains teflon. After all else
dries, a teflon coating is what remains. I wipe off the excess before using.
I had gotten it for car door locks for winter. Water from wet keys that gets
into the locks cannot stick to the surface when it freezes.

I believe if you wanted to do that you would need to use conductive silicon
greece.
I know we used conductive greece on diodes in alternators and it might work for
lights but I'm not sure; it does conduct electricity as well as heat so it
sould work.

surely something that is non conductive, for if the heat makes it run, it
could leak out, thus you'll start higher in the socket and t tip and
  side are connected.
If the material runs out, it may break the glass for ya. We used to put
oil on the bulbs to make the place smell nice. We've replaced less bulbs
  since we stopped being hippies.
Can you grab the bulb with duck tape when removing?

2007-03-13 Thread Max Robinson
Hi Richy. Missed hearing from you. Where have you been? If you use
something that is electrically conductive, it could get on the insulator
between the outer base and the center contact and cause a short.

Regards.
