Re: [BlindHandyMan] storm door hardware repair

2009-06-10 Thread Brice Mijares
David, what do you consider a storm door? Some years back, I hung what I
call a security door on the door leading to the side of my yard off the
garage. I also hung a glass door with a section of the door that you can
slide up to let fresh air in. This door I hung at the front door. Both
doors came with a door within a frame that mounted right to the framing of
the door entrance with lags that you could screw in, but you couldn't
unscrew.

Recently we had a nasty wind storm and my storm door slipped out of my
hand and got snagged by large gust that actually pulled the plate part way
off of the jam. I didn't notice this right away then yesterday the thing
simply fell out. Fortunately less than $15 later and a few minutes zapping
some new screws and she is as good as new once again.

I tried thinking once but decided it was a bad idea.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] storm door hardware repair

2009-06-10 Thread David Ferrin
It's a light metal door that I put a screen in during the summer and then a
pain of glass for the colder months of the year. It screws in to the jam and
is held by a piano hinge. Naturally I also have a heavier steel door but
this is for allowing some air flow.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] storm door hardware repair

2009-06-10 Thread Lee A. Stone

way to go David. you made out good as our front door was caught in the
wind and it was never right after that. perhaps the doors inside and
out in the future will be more like air lock doors that zip open and
closed as we pas thru. actually like many big stores. then no loose
screws or hardware to worry about. Lee
