Navigate to the directory where speech modules are stored:

cd /usr/lib/speech-dispatcher-modules

First, check via ll that everyone can run the module (I'm not sure what
executable name does RH voice use, let's call it sd_rh_voice):

ll | grep sd_rh_voice

There should be Three x symbols in the permissions.

Next, run the module:

./sd_rh_voice

There should be no output. If you see any errors here, they're likely
the cause of the problem.

If everything goes right, now the program should be expecting input.
Insert the following:

INIT
LIST VOICES

You should be presented with a table of supported voices. Choose one
(this is an example from espeak):

SET
language=sk
voice=male1
.

And have the program speak something:

SPEAK

ahoj

.

In older versions of the protocol, the program would start speaking
right away, now you receive the audio in binary format to the terminal,
the output should be finished with 702 END

Finish with QUIT command.

Hello Vojta,

have you tried running the speech-dispatcher module manually?

It can give you a better idea of what's going on.

Hello Zvonimir,

my friend tested and consulted it with Peter Vágner and they didn't
solve it. He compilled it twice and nothing hapens. Peter don't know
what to do too. Dependencies are installed, voices are installed,
RHVoice is installed, but can't be used, only in Archlinux and Windows.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

Vojta.

Hello all,

is some way to install RHVoice to Ubuntu Mate 22.04 on Raspberry Pi? I would
like to use it and if my friend tested it, he had problems to see voices in
Orca. It was installed, but invisible.

thanks a lot.

Make sure the rhvoice module is enabled in speech-dispatcher's
configuration file. I'm not sure what Ubuntu does off-hand, but the
default upstream configuration file has a line that needs to be
uncommented to enable the rhvoice module.
