The problem with sf is this: it either mutates into frightening reality or into escapist fantasy. Look at the 50s classics: some of them are our routine, some are so weird that nobody can take them as sf. Alberto Monteiro ___ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l

Of course Alias was a year in the future after Sidney's amnesia... Battlestar managed to jump a year in a single scene with less issues... What about Heroes? With Hiro Nakamura jumping forwards and backwards in time, I have no idea if what I watch is present, future, or a soon-to-be-erased alternate future. I think that is likely true. But I think you also have to factor in the desire to not do too much thinking. That's not true. Have you ever taken a glance at the series that air in the children and teen channels? Some of them are even good sf. My favourite was Black Hole School :-) Alberto Monteiro ___ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l

Not quite as SFinal as I'd like, but it has decent writing (which appears to be designed to appeal to a fairly broad audience...the fact that it does it decently is remarkable in my book)... Damon. the reason i like it is because it treats the terrorism threat as something that can be exaggerated, fabricated, assimilated and even co-opted by the very protagonist infidels the jihadists are attempting to destroy. another show i like is sleeper cell, much better in its portrayal of jihadists than 24 which promotes hysteria, hate and fear. jon louis Give spam the boot.
