[BD] Stourbridge Junior Tournament : 23rd Jan

2005-01-17 Thread Bolstridge, Thomas
Final update baring any unforeseen changes.

Directions

Directions are fairly easy. If you are coming from the North / South or East
then you need to get onto the M5 and head towards Junction 4. Come off at
this junction and take the A491 to Stourbridge. Follow this road ( signposts
to Stourbridge / A491 ) through Pedmore Oldswinford all the way to the
Stourbridge Ring Road. As you merge onto the ring road the Leisure Centre is
visible ( large slide from the pool on the side ) and you need to get over
to the right lane straight away as it is the 1st turning on the right. As
you come up the slip road you will see the leisure centre to your right and
also to your left is a big multi storey car - park. Any problems give me a
ring and I will try to help you out.

I appreciate if you are not coming by car, travel by train on a Sunday is
tricky. For those that are please be aware that there is limited floor space
available if needed, if people want to travel up on the Saturday. Just so
that you all know you will need to get a train to Birmingham New Street and
then walk about 4 mins (clearly signposted) to Birmingham Moor Street and
from there catch the train to Stourbridge Junction. For those of you that
are catching the train please let me know as lifts will be available from
Stourbridge Junction to the venue.

Teams Entered

Hippies On The Hill
Mowers
Tor-nadoes
No Pirates
Hammertime
GB Girls

*Old Gits is a pick-up team of non-juniors. If on the day there are juniors
available (not already on a team) who can form a pick-up team then they will
take the Old Gits place. 12 is a much easy schedule than 11.

Starting Times

09:30 Hippies v Dudes A Mowers v Dudes 1
09:50 Tor-nadoes v Turbulence No Pirates v Mini Mowers
10:10 GB Girls v Old Gits Hammertime v Catch Those

Any team with any problems over travel or whatever please let me know - I
would rather try and sort something out than anyone to not show up.

Also any junior team who still wants to come give me a ring and we may be
able to sort something.

Thanks,
Tom

[BD] Birmingham Indoor Qualifying Results

2005-01-17 Thread Andrew Godber
 Afternoon all,

Thanks again to all who helped out with running the tournament at the
weekend, and thanks to all the teams who turned up for coming and making the
event a success at a new venue. Great credit to Gav for organising the event
by himself, as he did a great job.

Some excellent games throughout the weekend, culminating in a couple of
classic semi-finals involving a sudden death finish, and a last second point
setting up another sudden death game; all followed by an excellent final
 match.

 Final results are as follows:

 16th Skunks 1 - SPIRIT WINNERS
 15th uBu 2
 14th Skunks 2
 13th Mohawks
12th Lords of the Ring 2
 11th Stourbridge
 10th Spearmint Hippos
 9th uBu 1 - PLATE WINNERS
 8th Bangor Badgers
7th Disc Hunters (Hope the guy with the shoulder is ok)
6th Lords of the Ring 1
 5th Rusty Caius
 4th Slippery When Wet
 3rd Discuits
 2nd Ex-Fingers 6
 1st Kamaya Maya - CUP/BALTI DISH WINNERS

As Gavin said yesterday, don't ask us about qualifying spots for Nationals -
we don't know. I am sure Barry/Chris will fill us in.

Thanks again, and maybe see you next year.

[BD] Rock or Crock?

2005-01-17 Thread Derek Robins
Back in 1985 the Warwick Indoors was the most prestigious indoor tournament in
Britain, and the Bears won a famous victory over the Battersea Boleros. Twenty
years on they re-formed for the same tournament. Would they rock, or would they
crock?

The inside money was on crock and Ivan Bromage failed to even make it onto
the pitch - though he did watch. The other originals: -
Tony Wacky Wakeford, Andy How much? Solomons, Tony TB Boud, Tim Thin
Fox, Paul Papparazzi Hurt, and Andy Pie-boy Plater were there. To add some
extra experience to the team Sue Underwood and Del Robins were drafted in.

Amazingly, the team remained intact, no cardiac arrests, no hernias, and they
were all able to walk out of the hall without crutches or zimmer frames. They
even managed to finish 9th out of 20 and win the plate. Not bad for a team with
an average age of over 40!

Great weekend, good to see lots of Bears past and present. Well done Scouse and
all the others involved in organising it. Congratulations to VICE for winning
it and WOOF for Spirit.

We'll be back in 5 years, on a mission not to come last.

Del
