IceCat is based on Firefox ESR.
Next release should be the 45.4:

[Bug-gnuzilla] IceCat-38.8.0 does not work on Fedora 24

2016-06-25 Thread Antonio Trande
Hi all,

currently IceCat-38.8.0 does not work on Fedora 24; we have open a
related bug report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1332926

Crash report from GDB:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1332926#c8

0x74873bb3 in nsLayoutUtils::GetLastSibling
(aFrame=0xe5e5e5e5e5e5e5e5) at
/usr/src/debug/icecat-38.8.0/layout/base/nsLayoutUtils.cpp:1586
1586  if (!aFrame) {

That's the code where the crash happens:

// static
nsIFrame* nsLayoutUtils::GetLastSibling(nsIFrame* aFrame) {
  if (!aFrame) {
return nullptr;
  }

  nsIFrame* next;
  while ((next = aFrame->GetNextSibling()) != nullptr) {
aFrame = next;
  }
  return aFrame;
}

It looks lke icecat crashes, because it tries to access uninitialised
memory (0xe5e5e5e5e5e5e5e5) and checks the memory against NULL
(!aFrame), that must crash.
But I don't know the cause might be gcc6 related.

Any help is welcome.

Re: [Bug-gnuzilla] IceCat-38.6 and GCC-6.0

2016-01-29 Thread Antonio Trande

There is a bug that prevents IceCat compilation with GCC-6.0
(currently used in the Fedora development branch):

In file included from ../../../dist/system_wrappers/stdlib.h:3:0,
 from ../../../dist/include/mozilla/mozalloc.h:15,
 from ../../../dist/stl_wrappers/cstdlib:39,
 from
/builddir/build/BUILD/icecat-38.6.0/gfx/graphite2/src/inc/Main.h:29,
 from
/builddir/build/BUILD/icecat-38.6.0/gfx/graphite2/src/Bidi.cpp:27,
 from
/builddir/build/BUILD/icecat-38.6.0/icecat-objdir/gfx/graphite2/src/Unified_cpp_gfx_graphite2_src0.cpp:2:
/usr/include/c++/6.0.0/stdlib.h:37:12: error: 'std::abort' has not
been declared
 using std::abort;
^
/usr/include/c++/6.0.0/stdlib.h:38:12: error: 'std::atexit' has not
been declared
 using std::atexit;
^~
/usr/include/c++/6.0.0/stdlib.h:39:12: error: 'std::exit' has not been
declared
 using std::exit;
^~~~
/usr/include/c++/6.0.0/stdlib.h:42:14: error: 'std::at_quick_exit' has
not been declared
   using std::at_quick_exit;

It seems due to incompatible system libraries like 'stdlib.h' and
'cstdlib', provided in the source archive of IceCat.

It's not a great problem in my opinion, I don't know if it's really a
packaging issue because Thunderbird-38.5.0 is has same title bar.

Warm regards.

Have you already read this wiki ?
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:IceCat/Compile_and_package/build_31.4.0_on_debian_ubuntu#Prepare_the_building_environment

 When you download TOR browser, the sig is right below the download

 official site, naming the key of TOR browser and the keyserver:
 https://www.torproject.org/docs/verifying-signatures.html.en

 So... I've found the IceCat file, I've found it's .sig file -
 https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/31.6.0/ On what official website
 do I find the necessary key for verifying the signature of this
 download? And what keyserver suggests me an official website to use
 for verifying the signature of this download?

It's not so immediate to do.

building IceCat in Fedora 21, but does not in Fedora 23 (development

IceCat built fine in Fedora 21:

IceCat building fails in Fedora 23:

Recently, GCC-5 debuted in Fedora development branch; may this

 the addition of the html5-video-everywhere, that allows video

Thanks Ruben for this new release.
I take the chance to remember that IceCat 31.4.0 has just been
packaged and available on Fedora 20 and Fedora 21 (updates-testing repos).

HTTPS-everywhere and RequestPolicy extensions can be installed
separately because packaged aside from IceCat.

 IceCat uses a spoofed UA string to improve on privacy. Please do
 not modify it on redistribution, as it defeats the purpose of the
 feature.

 The string should be: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:31.0)
 Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 It also matches the TorBrowser UA
 string.

This is a point of view that i hadn't considered.
I will fix.

Hi Svetlana.

Here you can find development guidelines by Mozilla
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Building_an_Extension.

As reported by gnu.org
(http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/addons.html), the majority of
these addons are not developed directly by Mozilla but by third party
developers, those with a Free license can be ported in Icecat.

 Hi all.

 I'm stumbling on an error because of a bad compiler on ARM:
 https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//work/tasks/4168/7994168/build.log

 These lines could indicate the problem

 checking for gcc PR49911... yes ---
 checking for gcc pr39608... no
 checking for llvm pr8927... yes ---

 that are not same if IceCat code is compiled on a no-ARM systems, like
 here:
 https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/icecat/31.2.0/4.fc22/data/logs/x86_64/build.log

 Both builds use same compiler (GCC 4.9.1).

 I can build IceCat on ARM only if are used default compiler flags; see
 here
 https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/icecat/31.2.0/4.fc22/data/logs/armv7hl/build.log

 What's the problem ?

 I don't touch any of that when making IceCat from Firefox, all the
 changes are settings and interface related. Whatever works for compiling
 Firefox should work for IceCat. In case I inadvertently changed that
 somehow, please try with the upstream tarball:
 ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/31.2.0esr/source/firefox-31.2.0esr.source.tar.bz2

Hi Ruben.

I didn't mean that it could be something caused by you. I don't know
if there are options which interfere with compiler check during
compilation.

 The current packages are based on v31, and v32 ones should be

Yes, I think.

 Also, I am trying to build icecat_31.0+gnu3.tar.gz, and
 README.IceCat says, run .configure to make, but there is no
 .configure. I am doing something wrong?

You can build 'configure' and 'make' files by using 'autoconf' tool
but you will encounter problems if 'autoconf' version is too recent
( v2.13) because of incompatibilities.

These Icecat RPMs will not provide HTTPS-everywhere and RequestPolicy
extensions expected with source archive.

HTTPS-everywhere is already packaged in Fedora; user just needs to
install it from official repository.

RequestPolicy extension RPM is under review like Icecat.

[Bug-gnuzilla] Bundled libraries in Icecat 24

2014-02-10 Thread Antonio Trande
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all.

As you know, most of bundled libraries provided in Icecat source
archive are already packaged in various GNU/Linux systems, but not all
can be overlooked during the compilation, some of them are libogg,
libtheora, opus or libvorbis.
Does exist any chance to use, for instance, system's 'libogg'
libraries when I compile Icecat ?
I need to avoid bundled files as much as possible.
