[bug #64482] Message '_stack_chk_guard' not found

2023-07-27 Thread Dave Pickens
Follow-up Comment #5, bug #64482 (project grub):

Hi again Vladimir,

I've uploaded file bug-64482.zip.

This includes the modules that were used in the gen.
These are an exact copy of the distributed 2.12 rc1 code.
At boot time they are the contents of the $prefix/x86_64-efi directory.

Also four other files:

gnugrub.kernel64.efi The kernel generated by grub-mkimage

output.genefi64.txt The exact command used for grub-mkimge
as well as the command console output

212win.crash.jpg A screenshot of the error message

gnugrub.efi.boot.sh The file referenced in the --config=parameter

I hope this helps,

Dave

Can you please upload your GRUB-related files? Especially kernel.img and all
the modules

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #64482 (project grub):

Hi Vladimir,

I've run into mismatch issues in the past, so I'm pretty careful.

After receiving your comment I carefully checked all of the libraries, both
used for gen and on the disk at boot time.

Every single module has the same stamp, July 10, 2023 at 11:53 AM New York
time (15:53) UTC.

I also set up a sterile single disk drive Windows virtual machine and
re-genned the kernel there. No other Grub directories, so no chance of stale
modules.

I got the exact same about message at boot time on the virtual machine.
'_stack_chk_guard' not found

Please re-open this issue as I don't think that a kernel - module mismatch is
at the root of this error.

Thanks,

Dave

This means that your kernel doesn't match your
modules. Please update your kernel and modules
in tandem so that they match. Ensure that you
actually boot the new version and not some
stale version on another disk. Try installing
on all the disks.

This appears when booting the 64 bit kernel.

I used grub-2.12~rc1-for-windows to generate kernels for

  x86_64-efi, i386-efi and i386-pc formats

The i386-efi and i386-pc kernels boot just fine. No errors.

However, the x86_64-efi kernel aborts with this message

   '_stack_chk_guard' not found
