I don't consider AES to be a small local business.

it was probably the good idea to close the doors that they should have thought
of a few years ago. I always support local small businesses if they offer
excellent service and competitive pricing but it's probably hard to compete
with the "big box guys" sad

houston amateur radio beat the big box guys when I purchased my last 3
transceivers.

This is the first radio store (in Milwaukee on Fond du Lac Ave. ) I walked into
with my dad, when he was looking for a newfangled SSB rig, in 1966.

2016-07-06 Thread Jim - KE8G via BVARC
Hi All,
This is unfortunate!

The Ohio store is located about 15 miles from my QTH and has gotten many
"greenstamps" from me over the past 40 years!

I found that as time progressed, AES seemed to be stuck in the 70's, as they
didn't keep up with the things other vendors were doing. The biggest problem I
experienced, was their unwillingness to price match a competitor for a product.
I started scanning the Internet and finding better prices for the equipment
and just bought that way. The last time I even attempted to buy from them, a
new Icom 746Pro, they just wouldn't budge on their asking price, so I bought it
from Texas Towers, with free shipping.

I feel sorry for the folks that work there, as they are very good people, but
couldn't change company policy.

That is truly sad news. He was a mainstay on the QRP Fox Hunts, even through
this past winter.

Get Your Ham Radio License In Just One Day! Ham-In-A-Day

There are several classes coming up during the summer months. 6/11, 6/25, 7/2,
7/16 & 7/30. These classes are near the University of Houston at I-45 South &
Wayside.

This isn't a class. It's guided study session: Six 45-minute periods spent
reading sections of the FCC question pool, with hourly breaks and lunch. An
F.C.C. authorized Ham Radio test session immediately follows the study session.
Our pass rate is fantastic.

This is the most easiest and most efficient way to get your Ham radio license.
We'll tell you how to study, and keep you doing it in an organized way. Then we
give you the test as soon as you're finished.

It's a proven “winning formula.” Short term memory is the “secret” of the high
success rate. All exam questions will be selected from the question pool you
studied during the session.

Registration is limited. This class is expected to fill very quickly. Sign up
today:

What do the classes cost? $35 This also includes the testing fee.

Would you like information on other classes related to Ham radio, emergency
management or disaster preparedness? Sign up for the training mailing list:

What about other locations and dates? Can the classes can be brought to my
group in say Spring, TX? Yes, call or email for details.
