Re: [BVARC] Potential Radio Events

2018-05-29 Thread mark janzer via BVARC
We'd (BVARC) had been in contact with HMNS-Sugarland for another reason - and
had scoped it out for operating from the facility.PI day there would be a hoot.
We have a good contact there (the events coordinator). It might be recommended
to do a remote station demo there, as options to run a transmission line out of
the building are severely limited (it was a former prison building - and
openings to the free air, are like nil).
Also, we still have a couple dozen no-solder transmitter kits (though they
transmit on the 20 meter band).

I have received several requests for demonstrations of Amateur Radio:

There are no details yet for any of these events, but I will pass information
along as it becomes available.

Two of the requests (#2 & #4) came as a result of having a booth at Scout Fair
in April.

   - Houston Museum of Natural Science - Sugarland    requested a special event
station on March 14, 2019.  That is when Pi day is celebrated (3/14)
   - Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC)of boy scouts - want us to set up a JOTA
station at Houston HQ and any other locations we can manage.  HQ is located at
the south east corner of loop 610 and TC Jester
   - Scout Camp Bovay (Navasota) has requested demonstrations at day camps this
summer and next October.  Typically the date in October is the same as JOTA.

   - SHAC has requested we consider offering radio license test sessions at
Scout Fair next year.

The Camp Bovay event is likely to include one or more of:

   - GOTA station
   - introduction to Morse code

   - Code practice kits
   - mini fox hunt

Please consider helping staff these booths when the time comes.
